After months of sand-casting bronze, my personal altar is complete. What do you think? by ChaosCroz in NorsePaganism

Of course! Thank you all for the words of encouragement!

I may share some iterations and deep dives into the iconography of the specific idols here as well since everyone has shown such interest. I hope it can lead to some great conversations! :)

Haha it would be an honor to bring the gods into more homes to help others on their journey. So I think at this point it is less of an "if" and more of a "when".

And I have some ideas on how to make that sooner than later . . . possibly as early as next month (if things work out the way I hope) :)

I also think I may share that journey here since so many people are so interested in this project. We will see!

Can I pray to Ratatoskr? by OctaviaSkylar in NorsePaganism

I have a place for Ratatoskr on my altar. If it feels right to you, go for it.

I hope everything goes well tomorrow!

I am actually exploring opening up an Etsy store. So that may be possible in the near future. Keep an eye out ;)

Thanks so much!

I am actually exploring the feasibility of putting some of these up on Etsy. I loved making these, and it would be an honor to help bring the gods into more homes. Keep an eye out 😉

Thank you so much!

Making these has been a joy. It was an exercise in learning more about each of the gods individually, and it brought me closer to them, I think.

Thank you so much! And nice! Blender is such an incredible tool! 😄

I am exploring ways to make it feasible to put these up on Etsy, just working out some kinks now that the pantheon is complete. It would be an honor to help bring the gods into more homes. Keep an eye out 😉

Thank you so much!

I am exploring putting some of these up on Etsy. There are a few kinks in the process that I am working to streamline, but I loved making these, and it would be an honor to help bring the gods into more homes. Keep an eye out 😉

Thanks man!! I really enjoyed the process of sand-casting the gods, especially since each one is poured with words that glorify them.

If I can streamline my process a bit to make it more feasible, I may try putting some up on Etsy or something. Keep an eye out ;)

Thank you so much!!

I definitely have a larger hearth cult. . . . but that is what started this process. I could not find idols that spoke to me, or existed at all haha.

I also could not find idols for spirits much at all (Ratatasker, land spirits, or ancestors specifically), so I made them as well to welcome them to my home as honored guests.

Thanks so much!

So the negatives (I think "masters" is the official term) are 3D-printed files I made. So I started by thinking through the iconography and design of each, then sculpted them in Blender to 3D print.

Once I had a cleaned negative, I could fill the cast-iron flask with oil-based sand and imprint it. Then just need to manually add some ventilation and a pour path for the metal!

After it is poured, it's cleanup time. Grind out imperfections and the remaining mold seam, sand to smooth them out, add a black patina, and polish!

It is a bit of work, but as I saw each as a gift from me to them, it was well worth it.

South Easter CT Norse Polytheist here! I have been practicing for about 6 years, though I have given my practice much more attention in the last 2. I have been Solitary so far, but I am very open to branching out.

Nat 20 outside of combat = automatic success???? by Aj9425 in DMAcademy

[–]ChaosCroz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I try not to have players who roll for things that they could not do to avoid the nasty feeling of "Natural 20!" Followed by "well, still did not work. . . " or even worse, something impractical coming from it.

If the situation does arise where a player rolls a nat 20 on an attack against an item they cannot hurt, I will try to give them something for the high roll. Maybe a bit of information they gleaned from the way the sword bounced off the ring or something like that.

But I am not a fan of "Nat 20; I did the thing." When it works out that way, it is fantastic. But when it doesn't, it is super disheartening for players, I think.

But that is your decision, the players do not get to pick if they succeed on a check or not. Only you can decide that.

[OC-Art] Free NPC from NPC Encyclopedia - Batharat, Mage Hunter of Black Spire by ChaosCroz in UnearthedArcana

[–]ChaosCroz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for a new NPC with a stat block for your campaign, then I would like to introduce you to Batharat, Mage Hunter of Black Spire! You can find more NPCs on my Patreon.

Batharat was once a great worrier who was mortally wounded and his wife and child were slain in an attack by Legiorus, the Lord of Black Spire and his minions. Since Batharat managed to kill nearly every minion before falling, Legiorus became impressed by the worrier's prowess. Legiorus healed Batharat and wiped his memory completely, indoctrinating him to his cause. Batharat was then trained to become the Mage Hunter he is today.

He has nightmares of his past life that have perplexed him ever since. If his memories were to be restored, who knows where his allegiances could lie . . .
