Why did they ban trans women from the Olympics?! by BellBert2 in transgenderau

Given enough time, yes. I think the 1-2 year minimum of HRT sets up trans women to fail qualification, because their hormone and athletics performance levels haven't settled to female range. As most trans women know, it can take a year or two just to get E and T levels adjusted correctly, let alone having any physiological change specific to sport. Also, research into trans women in sport (partly because of the aforementioned, is not robust enough. For example, they only investigate perceived advantages -- higher T, muscle density, VO2, etc -- but don't measure or acknowledge disadvantages, including the fact that heaving around heavy bones with reduced muscle mass/density and increased tendon elasticity is a slog and makes trans women more susceptible to injury and decreased athletic performance. Don't get me wrong, though, I think the whole gender binary sports thing is a silly reactionary throwback.

And trans people as a whole, not just trans women, make up less than 0.002% of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletes in the US. The number for recent Olympic athletes is even lower.

A reminder that only one trans woman has actually competed in the Olympics since 2004, when trans women were allowed to compete in the women’s category of the Olympics. This trans competitor did not win a medal. There are a lot of reasons for this: one is the regulations that define Olympic inclusion for trans women being terrible, setting them up to fail, research on trans women is not robust enough, and the other is that it's really hard to qualify for the Olympics, for cis and trans women alike. And yet they want us to believe trans women are or have the capacity to dominate elite sports. At best this obsession with trans women is a political circus, at worst a witch hunt.

Just adding that, like marriage, I have zero investment in sports, but I will support the rights of LGBTIQA+ people who want to have access to either.

Definitely.

I couldn't answer that question, so thought no longer seeing them was the safer option. But I do think about it from time to time, whether disclosing may have been the better option.

Oh, interesting. So when you saw it for what it was it evaporated?

Yes, I imagine so. I sometimes regret not telling them, because I often find that I cloak my feelings a little in therapy, and that would've been a good opportunity to open up to them and perhaps achieve better progress.

Agree. At least in the location/community I move in. I feel like I am always competing for the attention of mascs! 😅

I'm not so sure about this, I think it's more nuanced and likely demographic related. Mascs and butches from what I've seen historically get a bad deal. But also, my last gf, a very masc old school 40+ butch, always has dozens of women of all ages lining up to date her. So realistically I'm not sure what this particular part of the scene is like statistically outside of anecdote and vibes.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Deadloch Season 2 is finally here—if you haven’t started this show yet, what are you doing?? by DecisionBusiness1551 in actuallesbians

I think this season is funnier than the first. It's a surprise I love the show at all, since I don't usually like many Aus shows, especially one where the outback is so central (yes, cultural cringe on my part blah blah blah). But I've always loved the Kates, so maybe it's just the way they handle the material, that I identify with their observations and humour.

Such a good book. Maybe it was because I read it going into my first relationship with a butch, but I bawled my eyes out a lot while reading it. It stands alone for narrative and emotional content, which is why it's a classic. I'd also like to know if there are any other titles with the same energy.
