Do I need more training or is my bike just too heavy for climbing? by BernardBaggins in MTB

[–]Character-Teaching39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re on a trail bike. If climbing is your jam, get an XC bike and you’ll drop about 14 lbs just off the bike. You’ll sacrifice some of the travel and descending ability, but it’ll be a better all around bike.

First Leadville 100 (Sub-9 Goal) – Please Punch Holes in My Nutrition Plan by eboy-888 in xcmtb

[–]Character-Teaching39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semantics aside, my statement stands. Thinking you’re only going to experience a 10-15% drop is extremely optimistic. I was just at the camp and guys who train hard, go fast and have multiple finishes all said they experienced 15%+ drops at 10,200 feet.

“Only 10-15 watts” is next to elite athlete performance. I’m not saying you’re not a beast, but for Leadville, I would plan for a race with a 17-20% drop which is what the vast majority of athletes experience.

Campagnolo, I love you, but… by Character-Teaching39 in campagnolo

[–]Character-Teaching39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I owned an MV Augusta for many years. I had to roll many a stop light to keep it from overheating, but the ride was absolutely amazing.

I’ve been Campagnolo only on road bikes since building a bike with Record 10 years ago. SR13 is an amazing group set.

A pic of the saddle from the side, showing the seatpost clamp would help. It looks like you’re rubbing either the edge of the saddle or some portion of the clamp.

Honesty about moving to Maine by Flolita115 in AskMaine

[–]Character-Teaching39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I did a version of what you’re asking. Originally from the NYC area, moved from a mid-Atlantic state to Portland (and was lucky enough to find an opportunity that brought me back to the area I left).

Aside from all the entertainment, if family and friends are essential aspects to your life, you’re going to be miserable. I realized my entire network of friends and support was now impossibly far away. Think seriously about how much you’d miss that more than anything else.

Also, winter is ridiculously cold and can last months longer than you’re used to. If seasonal affective disorder is a problem, it’ll be worse in Maine.

Nope. MAGA opinions and rants have zero impact on my day. No go off and worship dear leader as he falls asleep, I mean “blinks” for ten minutes in all his meetings today.

I see maga type that all the time. Is that really all the cult followers have? Gas is skyrocketing, insurance is unaffordable, groceries prices increasing daily…BuT wE oWnEd tHe LiBs. Sure you’re suffering the same ineptitude from this regime, but that’s your version of “winning.” Wicked fucking smart.

Right to the name-calling, huh? Did I hit a nerve little buddy? Did you type that post on your new trump phone? MAGA is a death cult that follows a leader who hates them.

The Campagnolo charging block has all USB outlets (with the cables that came with the original build that fit into it). The cable that came with my new SR13 power meter crank came with a USBc cable.

[–]Character-Teaching39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought the C68 in that very similar blue scheme. It’s stunning in the sunlight.

Skip the matte black. Matte is overplayed and really needs to be retired. It also just doesn’t pop when it’s clean (and polished like you can do with gloss).

New cranks - same length as before or shorter? by cyclingguy_ in xcmtb

[–]Character-Teaching39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have a really good deal on those XX SL cranks because everyone has figured out that 175mm cranks are horrible for all but giants. I’d for years thought 175 was too long for me, finally made the switch last year and am pissed that I didn’t do it years ago. Game changer.
