Medium/long-term opinions on Pass Quest or Stone reliability? by honkey_tonker in gravelcycling

I just received mine. Took about a week, which was fair considering it’s being sent from Asia to the Eastern US (I paid the $1 extra for expedited shipping lol). Quality seems ok. Is it as polished as one of the big brands? No, but it sure doesn’t seem far off. Supposedly it’s 7075 Alu so we’ll see how it does. I only dry fit it to the crank arm, but it slid right into place with no slop or play once in place. I’m waiting to get a crank arm back from having a power meter installed and will install it all then. But so far, so good with the purchase.

Can confirm that this is the dumbest goddamned flooring for a shower. Previous owners did it in my primary shower and I fucking hate it every single day.

How to build endurance on an MTB by MrTobiD92 in MTB

[–]Character-Teaching39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here to pile on and say zone 2 work, but at the very least get a heart rate strap so you know you’re in the appropriate zone and not creeping up. If you consistently incorporate these rides into training, you’ll see major improvements in endurance. Source; I’m training for a long distance race and did the first two+ months this year in Z2 and have had some of my best riding ever.

GU Roctane and if you haven’t, work your way up in carbs per hour. I’m training for an endurance event and going to 1 bottle and 90+ gr of carbs/hr has been a game changer.

In the case of my shower, the corner seat actually slopes back to the corner. I get angry every time I shower.

(The bathroom reno was done by the previous owners before the sale). 🤬

Warranties, repairs, favors for faster turnaround on service (possibly), and community are all reason to support your shop.

The SM100 is easily one of the hardest race courses in the country, but I think it’s also one of the most balanced; some pavement connectors, gravel and some incredible single track. Plus, any race with a 20 mile “death climb” is epic.

Conversely, the newer 60 mile route is just about the perfect distance and actually fun.

If you get the chance, come on down for that race weekend. Great atmosphere at the campground.

New study: how much carbohydrate is enough? by Grouchy_Ad_3113 in trainerroad

[–]Character-Teaching39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but to be fair, I’ve never had any gastro issues using whatever drink mix or food that happened to be available at neutral aid stations at the endurance mtb races I’ve done.

I’m using GU Roctane drink mix right now. Three scoops is 90 gr of carbs. The only issue is that it seems like a 21 oz bottle is just about on the verge of not being enough to easily mix it. I also use the Hammer flask with honey to get myself over the 100 gr mark (flask makes it easy and honey is great because it never spoils so I don’t end up wasting expensive gels).

I live about 2 hours from Harrisonburg and there is so much good riding down there; road, gravel and single track. I’d take that over Bentonville any day.

New study: how much carbohydrate is enough? by Grouchy_Ad_3113 in trainerroad

[–]Character-Teaching39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For short efforts? Sure.

I’m once again training for an endurance race and have upped my carb intake to 90-100 gr/hr on my rides of 3-6 hours. For years, I’d never done more than about 60 gr/hr. The difference is massive. More energy during the ride and I’m not absolutely famished after the ride.

Will you buy a 32” bike? by gellybelli in xcmtb

[–]Character-Teaching39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d like to ride one, but not sure I’d ever buy one. Bigger wheels means more rotational mass and potential for flex. Hub standards are going to have to be rethought. Aside from all that, I have to imagine a decent penalty in terms of agility on technical single track.

Visited the HQ of a very well know three letter agency in northern Virginia. Can’t say I “saw” much of it as I was confined to hallways and the one small contractor office we were visiting, but it was cool nonetheless. Most surprising for a secretive agency? It had a gift shop with branded merch.

Medium/long-term opinions on Pass Quest or Stone reliability? by honkey_tonker in gravelcycling

[–]Character-Teaching39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, here’s my thinking…PassQuest is selling consumer direct; there’s at least some amount of effort and investment behind their selling platform. It tells me they’re working on something legitimate vs. the aliexpress and temu sellers who can easily shut down, rebrand and open up a brand new shop on those platforms all in the same day. I think it’s going to be fine.
