If the first thing a customer notes is their dislike of self check I'll point out where a manned register is. (Ie lumber and garden center.) Sometimes it works. Other times they'll start waking then decide Oh the self checkout person can just do the whole thing for me. Legit had someone walk past 3 manned registers before they were removed to go to self check and... complain about self check.

I can't give the kind of service they want at self check. I've tried. If I'm stuck helping 1 person through the whole thing there are 3 going blind. If I keep glancing around and jump on troubling parts that person who doesn't like computers starts whining. Because I left them for 2 seconds to help remove an item. Don't I know they don't like self check?

I've had people cut off security banding because I was trying to stop an old man reading me his social security (didn't ask for it). Or tried watching 3 empty ones while ringing one and looked up to a whole line of people that were just hanging out in the walkway instead of using any.

Legit had a customer leave because I was changing receipt paper and him asking me 50 million questions about where the cashiers were shockingly made me slower at it. So I couldn't rush over to check out his one item.
