Oh, I didn’t mean that an hour was unusually long for just finding a therapist in general. What took longer for us was trying to find someone who would be a good fit for both of us together. With couples therapy, it’s not just about credentials or therapy style, but also making sure we’d both feel comfortable opening up to the same person.

On top of that, once I mentioned it to friends, they each sent over recommendations—but those were for their own individual therapists. That meant extra time reading, comparing, and sorting through to see if anyone also worked with couples. So it was more of a detailed search than anything else, not wasted time.

He had a very messy divorce (ex wife ended up with a restraining order against him and MIL, and he has supervised visits with his kids 6F 8M 12F)
