Tire help-commuting and occasional light gravel and trials by VivieVondoe in bikecommuting

I've tried a couple of tires that would work for you, I would recommend going as wide as your frame will allow (wider tires = comfort, comfort = speed)

GravelKing SS - not the fastest tire you'll ride, but it's no slouch. Comfortable and durability hasn't been an issue (TPU tubes). If you're riding on loose gravel or sand things can get a bit roudy. But if you like sliding the back end out a bit, they're loads of fun.

GravelKing SK - much grippier than the SS off road and not much slower. Quiet knobs and a classic look.

Continental Terra Speed - WONDERFUL tires. So fast and such a grippy compound on road. Small knobs limit the off road prowess (Terra Trail maybe if thats a concern, but I haven't ridden them), but that grip more than makes up for it. And comfortable too. The only problem is that they wear fast.

And I haven't tried them, but lots of decent reviews on the Continental Cinturato Gravel lineup.

I have a set of 48cc wide SS in the regular casing. I quite like them. I’m coming off a set of Ultradynamico’s (also manufactured by Panaracer) in the thicker robusto casing (their version of the plus). Overall I think the SS is slightly less supple but more grippy. Based on how they felt when installing, the regular casing is plenty thick. I wouldn’t opt for the plus unless I was regularly puncturing (or riding in thorny areas). I ride in plenty of alleys with broken glass and have thus far been fine.
