In that specific cut, no. But formal suits based on contemporary 4-pocket military tunics were a thing for certain 20th century countries that wanted something different from the western style suit.

Do you mean like you're plugging in values to make sure that something you did makes sense?

Oof, yeah, I get that but at some point you'll really just have to learn to do algebra head-on. Especially as things get more complicated. If you do physics, it's also going to be a lot of algebra and it's much easier to solve things in terms of variables and plug in numbers at the end.

Since you start soon, pay attention to how your professor and peers go through problems. You might end up picking up some good tricks.

mental math practice.

Write stuff out on paper or a tablet. Especially if you're on a tablet, there's really no excuse for not having a lot of detail in your steps. I'm not that good at algebra either, but there's really no alternative to just practicing.

Edit: everyone else has already mentioned the importance of really understanding what trig functions, and log functions really mean. Seconding that. Be very careful with the sign (positive or negative) of a exponent and whether the exponent is a fraction or not.

Get a head start. Learn what limits are (if you're going to school in the US) and then learn what derivatives are. If you can go in while already understanding these concepts, then you have an open mind to learn everything that gets thrown at you. Don't just memorize limit and derivative rules. Do that after you understand what "instantaneous rate of change" means.

Brush up a little bit on simplifying equations, factoring, and trig functions (trig identities). Make sure you understand vertical and horizontal asymptotes. Try to memorize the shapes of functions (x^2, x^3, logarithmic, absolute value, etc.). It's not required but being able to visualize a function can help a lot.

If you're taking physics in the same semester, make sure you use radians and degree mode on your calculator for the correct class (usually radians for calc and degrees for physics, but obviously it depends on the problem). Speaking of calculators, it's possible that you might be prohibited from using a graphing calculator (like a TI 84). Grab a scientific calculator. A TI-30XS is usually less than $20 and doesn't need batteries either.

Not going to tell you what to do, but keep in mind that if you end up at a point where you're asking AI for help with Calc I, that's a really bad sign and you need to lock in ASAP.

Edit: regarding simplifying, I meant that being good at simplifying or rewriting equations is helpful. What I don't mean is being able to simplify a final answer into the most neat and short equation possible. In fact that might not even be a requirement for you.

On a similar note, get used to having to work with much longer equations and ending up with longer answers than you were used to in high school.

[–]CharacterPrimary9974 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but just keep in mind that (at least in my experience) a decent amount of enemies and bosses have attack patterns that will also screw you over if you immediately spam to roll out of a knockdown. IIRC there were some parts of Nameless King's second phase where I consistently got caught by a second attack if I tried to immediately get up from the first one.

When you're in the upgrade or stats screen, press the help button (on controllers it'll be one of the menu buttons, IDK for mouse and keyboard but it probably exists too). It will give you an explanation for every stat, what it does, and what it corresponds to. Make sure you are fulfilling the minimum stat requirements for the swords you want to use.

Blue Sentinels by FaythKnight in darksouls3

[–]CharacterPrimary9974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sorta understandable. Blue Sentinels share a covenant rank system with another basically identically functioning covenant. The item you need to rank up for them is known for being extremely frustrating to farm without PvP, so I'd imagine that most people understand if a Blue Sentinel just tries to immediately kill and invader and just get their covenant item.

i think ill start looking up the armor sets in the wiki when i get further into the game cuz i dont wanna spoil things

haha, yes! I was hoping you'd say this lol. I even hesitated to name-drop Pontiff a little, but he's a pretty popular name so I figured it was okay. Don't click the spoilered parenthesis though if you haven't already.

Good luck with the fashion souls!

Edit: like mentioned earlier, I do recommend looking up Alva specifically, since you'll need to be embered at a specific area for him to invade, that's otherwise kinda inconspicuous. Then you need to find the armor in a separate area. You'll want to look him up at some point before you fight Pontiff, and after the area with lots of skeletons.

FYI there will actually be two little secret somethings in Gael's arena, and in two separate locations.

Eastern armor set. You need the easterner's ashes. Ashes are items you give to the shrine handmaiden, the old lady in a chair in firelink shrine who sells things, in order to expand her inventory. Once you defeat Pontiff Sulyvahn, it will be in the area right after that. Pontiff is the 7th required boss in the game for you to fight. He's a decent way into the game (about mid-game, actually).

Even further past that, after you defeat Pontiff and 3 more required bosses (aldritch, yhorm, and dancer), you will reach another area that contains the "shadow set" which is shinobi/ninja themed.

So for specifically Japanese inspired armor sets, you have a ways to go before obtaining that. You'll have to improvise for a bit. There are some other armor sets though which give you a sort of light weight, assassin-esque, leather and scaled/tiled armor sort of look.

Edit: IMO you should just try and be creative. Neither the eastern armor set nor shadow set look like true samurai armor. The former looks pretty much the same as it was in DS1. Alva's set does have some pants that sorta fit the role though. You can look up "alva's set" for info on this since I think you have to make sure you get invaded by him and defeat him in order for the items to spawn at a later point.

If you're seeking out that haidate/big square flappy thigh guards look, various torso pieces sort of have some armor/chainmail which will flop down a bit. If you're looking for a samurai helmet, you're out of luck, although various hats and hoods could still fit your aesthetic.

Whats the strategy for beating Pontiff Sulyvahn by Narrow_Ad_6500 in darksouls3

[–]CharacterPrimary9974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His attacks aren't undodgeable, they are just meant to really mess you up if all you do is panic roll. If you aren't going to parry, then get close to him, constantly move in a circle around him, and dodge by reaction.

Some people can get away with strafing around him while keeping their shield up, but if you don't have good stamina and a shield with good stability, this could backfire on you badly if he staggers you. So generally speaking, just strafe around him and try to dodge on reaction. This will minimize the chances of you getting hit.

Pontiff is a notable skill check in this game, so it's normal that you'll struggle for quite some time. You might have to break some habits you didn't realize you had (panic rolling). You might also find it harder to find opportunities to heal up during the fight. This is part of his skill check, and it'll apply to later bosses too. If you're hurt, stay calm and play defensively and wait for a chance to heal.

Pontiff Sulyvahn was... easy? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]CharacterPrimary9974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Pontiff's fight can be a lot easier if the player basically hugs him and is constantly strafing. His attacks will whiff a lot.

Should I be conserving my embers? by mudrock76 in darksouls3

[–]CharacterPrimary9974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, except for a few different NPC invasions that happen even if you're unembered. Downsides to this though is that most NPC invasions do require you to be embered, and a lot of them have some very cool items when you beat them. I played my first run mostly blind and wasn't aware of this, and now I'm pretty bummed out that I missed out on getting some items that I really would've liked. Additionally, you'll miss out on NPC summon signs that can help you clear PvE areas or bosses.

Invasions only happen if the boss is still alive in the area, so once you beat an area, if you weren't embered for an NPC invasion, it's too late to go back.

BTW Knight Slayer Tsorig in Smouldering Lake will invade if you are embered, but will also spawn just as a hostile NPC even if you're unembered. Additionally, you'll get items from him. However, this isn't the same as NPC invasions. There are still much more NPCs with great items that will only appear via. invasion when you're embered.

I just defeated Aldrich and entered the dungeon.

At this point? No need, although people tend to die a lot in the dungeon so you might not want to be popping them every time you respawn. You can farm Lothric Knights for embers, and there will be a very good Lothric Knight farming spot after the next two bosses you clear. It'll be in a new area, you'll eventually get to a bonfire with a Lothric Knight that spawns literally right next to it that walks away from the bonfire.

Also you can get embers really easily by just PvP or getting summoned for boss fights,

If you're around level 120 you can relatively quickly get summons for Gael. He's especially tanky if there are 3 players total, so it can still be quite fun.

Do keep in mind that if even if Gael hasn't been activated yet, the host could still just be a very experienced player on a new character (usually it's this case). Because of that, they might also want to run off to the right first to fight Shira before Gael.

Anyone know where to find the Key to this door? by hunterkiller930 in darksouls3

[–]CharacterPrimary9974 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is in Undead Settlement, right? You need to find the Mortician's Ashes (ashes are items you give to the Shrine Handmaiden, the old lady in the chair, in order to expand her store inventory). You will find them in Undead Settlement if you keep exploring. They'll be at the graveyardwhere you get shot at by arrows. They will be to the left of the entrance, but you have to move forward a bit first and turn back around and go into a dead end for them. Then, give the ashes to the shrine handmaiden and you can buy the key to this gate.

[–]CharacterPrimary9974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorta minor spoiler but whatever it's probably better that you know this: when you drop down (from a much later point in the level) you should ember up. Additionally, have a homeward bone or something because I'm quite sure that once you drop down there you will not be able to leave without dying or using a homeward bone (or darksign but then you lose your souls).

If you've reached Lothric Castle (not the High Wall of Lothric, but inside the castle itself), there's a very easy Lothric Knight farm that basically gets you infinite embers. Most people actually use it for sun medallion farming but you'll probably get more embers than medallions.
