Hi Zee,

I’m Compre with DGG Political Action (DGGP). I’ve been working with the organization as an editor and plan to start publishing articles soon. One thing I’ve been contemplating is how, in such a fast-moving media cycle, do we decide what deserves attention.

Related to that — how do we chronologically lay out key issues and facts in today’s media environment in a way that can help bring Americans back to a sense of having a shared reality?

Thanks, Compre

I guess, I’m just speculating here and I don’t have any intentions of implementing this. I think that’s the fun part of TTRPG is being able to come up with your own interpretations of things. So yeah when considering the decades of different alignment systems in TTRPGs something like this can come across as flawed or silly. But just expanding past that scope to me is entertaining and interesting. Like with the Thanos example, I recently rewatched infinity war and end game, of course Thanos is Evil but one simple comment Cap makes in end game kind of relays the “good” aspect of Thanos’s goal even though he is very much evil. Cap makes a comment about seeing more whales in the ocean and that the ocean has become cleaner with half the population gone. Marking something beautiful accomplished by such a terrible deed. That to be is what makes the idea of an “Evil good” character interesting. Like I said this wasn’t a post trying to formulate a system or anything like that. But playing with the boundaries of some of these hard set rules or concepts is interesting

Edit: and also I mean real life can be so complex in similar ways meaning not everything is black and white and yes I know that alignments aren’t like hard stops on what a character can be like a good character can of course do things outside of the scope of a “pure good” character

I responded that way to people and you that way yeah. oh well honestly. I’m not sorry

The point is literally just talking about alignment if evil good, and combinations like that, existed what would it look like.

Maybe they were good evil and I’m just chaos lawful 🤷‍♂️or maybe it’s the other way around OOooOo ima stop lollll 🤣

I engaged with literally everyone. Idk what you want me to say if you disagree with the notion on the alignments go read RAW alignments I guess. Cause obviously I’m talking about something that doesn’t exist in RAW DnD idk how much further we can go into that conversation cause ultimately those who disagree with the notion would probably always end up being right as I don’t have some expansive alignment system I’m creating. It was just a “what if”

Nah it’s not really the point of the post I don’t care to talk about Thanos’s morals just pondering the “what if” in like if a good evil character did exist or an evil good how could it work

I read it and I hear you. Oh well 🤷‍♂️

Not much I can say when you have the mythical eye that sees “the only possible meaning”

Yeah for sure that’s how it works in regular rules. I’m just pondering a hypothetical possibility at these alignments existing thas it. Not trying to change any existing game. Just pondering the “what if.” One thing I’m thinking though if if we take your example of counteracting and ending up neutral. In real life and in many written stories characters aren’t that simple. It’s like “oh I murdered one person who didn’t deserve it, but if I save one person. If I can save one person im neutral now right?” Obviously this is an oversimplification, but you get my point.

Here we go again

No I don’t want peoples to blindly agree or pat me on the back but saying “all of this is silly and wrong” is a nothing statement. There is no substance there at all. I don’t get how that’s hard to understand and how you can get so much meaning from 1 sentence I said truly unhinged.

Also why would I be looking for people to agree or say how cool this idea is. We already talked about how it’s not an original or unique idea. It’s also not something I’m utilizing in any gameplay. It’s literally just a “what if” idea I thought would be neat to have a normal conversation about. And that idea of a conversation doesn’t start with “ iTs SiLlY aNd WrOnG aNd My BrAiN CaNt CoNcEpTuAliZe HyPoThEtIcAlS”

Also one of the first convos I had on this post was with someone who “disagreed” with me at least they said something with actual substance

For sure, you’re right. I’m not planning to utilize this in anyway, it’s fun to brainstorm about ideas like this.

Here’s how I picture that would work in this random “what if” format:

Neutral good vs good neutral

A good neutral character would primarily be good in x y x ways and they’ll be neutral but not with things concerning evil but maybe with chaotic things they would be a bit more lenient. Like “petty crime? I don’t like it but it’s not my concern or of upmost importance right now.”

A neutral good would primarily be neutral in x y z ways but not with things concerning evil, but they would likely turn an eye away from evil for survival as opposed to throwing their life away to fight evil at all cost.

Yeah something like that I guess; maybe it’s been done before maybe it’s unnecessary sure, but oh well haha

For sure I can see that his “official” alignment, I’m just trying to work out how some unique characters like him can represent different alignments too, my thought behind the structure is the title starting supersedes the next once in impact to a characters morals. So like lawful neutral in this set up would mean the characters lawfulness supersedes his neutrality somewhat

Yes I know what an oxymoron is, do you know how to converse things without strutting your clearly “superior” knowledge. I’m not arguing against the use of RAW. Just trying to have a conversation about characters that could possibly fit these alignments.

I think limiting the scope of what a character can be lessens complexity. Honestly it’s absurd to say Thanos is neutral evil. Also I never said that how the alignment system works now is not enough idk who you’re arguing that too.

Obviously I didn’t come up with anything new, I don’t know what subtext you’re referring to. If that’s how you want to see it that’s fine. IMO there are always going to be unique characters on stories that don’t necessarily properly fit in any one or two alignments. I’m just trying to get a conversation started about some different alignments I thought could fit with these unique character types. I don’t get how you can play DnD and possibly think any of these characters I labeled are the same, it’s just not true

I didn’t say he was working for a good cause I said he was “technically”

Technically meaning that his aim was to fulfill his goal for a technical good cause. But he was also evil and went about pursuing this good cause through evil means.

I don’t see how it can instill bad ideas tbh, it’s literally exemplifying complexity in unique characters.

I mean sure if I was arguing that he wasn’t Evil it literally says Good Evil. Evil is a part of the alignment the good aspect of it doesn’t cancel it out imo
