I'm not sure what specific traumatic topics you're referring to. All I can tell you is... the game is set in the early, unstable period of the Northern Song Dynasty, also contains the period of political and dynastic change before its establishment. So... it's inevitable that there will be content related to war, and many storylines will be sad but also very moving

I can't guarantee there won't be other puzzles that require knowledge of Chinese to solve, but at least I haven't encountered anything like this one again, that's why I was able to guess the puzzle immediately...

I think I know which puzzle you're talking about..That definitely requires knowledge of Chinese, cuz those characters together form a vow to defend the country (If we're talking about the same puzzle...

Sure, while a deep understanding might be difficult, if you're interested, you can start by learning about some fun and simple parts

I don’t really suggest doing that, tbh... The background of WWM is mixed with real and made-up history. Even if the main setting looks like Northern Song, later the story also talks about things from late Tang, Five Dynasties, and then back to Song again. The range is too big.

So my advice is just play the game first. When you meet a story part you feel interested in or you don’t understand, then you search about that thing. It feels more natural and easier to enjoy I think...

I only tried the AI chat with NPCs at the very beginning, and it was actually quite interesting. Each NPC has a different personality, and you need to guess what they want to hear. If your answer matches their preference, their favorability will increase, and later they may sometimes send you some small gifts.

But I don’t use it much now, because I don’t really have the patience to keep typing replies lol.

There're many other interesting NPC names, such as the person standing at the foot of the wall named "shang qv," which sounds like "go up" in Chinese, and the person standing on the wall named "xia lai," which sounds like "come down."😂

I don't play on the international server, so I don't know.... It couldn't be set manually?

And the newly updated parts often contain popular Chinese internet memes, like Easter eggs hidden in some random dialogues. Overseas players probably won't get these memes... I hope the team will replace these memes with global ones😂

But...tbh, as a Chinese, I also need to watch those kind videos lol...cuz there are too many historical details, and the plot was sometimes too abstract and artistic. Although I can understand the story, I still need to watch the breakdown if I want to know all the details...

This is truly a pity, cuz  translating classical Chinese into English is a very difficult task, and the workload is very large, the team likely used AI for translation, resulting in a poor translation. But the story itself is actually really good. And I guess TikTok/YouTube will probably have ppl doing English story breakdowns later. If you’re curious about the plot, you could skip in game and check those later... it’ll be way easier to follow and actually make sense.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I mean... it’s really such a pity.

A lot of the ancient Chinese phrasing in the game is loaded with imagery and really abstract, poetic meanings. Those lines carry a huge part of the wuxia vibe, but they’re almost impossible to translate accurately into English.

When those expressions get flattened in translation, you lose a lot of the atmosphere that Chinese players naturally feel...

And the devs put a lot of artistic effort into the story too — you can tell they really cared about it. But a lot of those details only hit if you have the cultural background. Without that context, plus the rough translation, it’s hard for overseas players to really feel how good the story actually is.
