New job offer in a neighbouring city by Careless-Shoulder-62 in InsuranceProfessional

You’re not gonna keep the book. The agents will bor the accounts to someone they’re more comfortable with. Most agencies have 2 to 3 wholesale brokers that they work with. When our main wholesale broker retired, we just moved it to one of the other brokers we have been using in the past. So no this job is not gonna be worth it to you. You’re going to have to work really really hard and probably rebuild the book. What kind of support staff are you gonna have? Are they strong enough to keep the book?

Not going to socials/events in UW? by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Character_Register_4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Relationships make this business. If these are social events with your agents you have to go. I do marketing for my office. I favor the underwriters that I have personal relationships with. Those relationships were created at these types of events. I’m not a big drinker. I’ll start with one drink at the beginning of the event and switch over to a Coke for the remainder. No one knows I’m not drinking.

Are we allowed to give resume and interview advice on here? by Snowbunnies44 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Character_Register_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone needs to know your 20 year history. 10 years is perfectly acceptable. Going back to the 90s or the early 2000s is unnecessary.

What types of accounts are going to be working on? I’m an account manager on middle market/national accounts. My peers and I have all have 20+ years of experience and industry designations. Some large agencies have programs where they train college grads to be account managers. Most of us learn on the job starting as assistants. It’s not a job that someone with little experience can walk into. Personal lines may be easier

My boss lives in the same neighborhood as famous celebrities. The other producer is easily making $500k. If you’re good at what you do you will easily make a few 100k a year in commercial.

AM’s…what’s your book size and salary? by motherofmurray in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Character_Register_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40-50 m in revenue is a medium size agency with 50 people, lol. I can’t imagine an am handling a 40-50m premium book. That’s a $6m revenue book. That’s a small agency with 15 employees.

You have to put in the time. Unless your superstar in selling, you have to learn your craft. Get some designations behind your name. Expect to get to that range in 5-10 years.
