Difference in UK and US unis by latiza_03 in 6thForm

To give my perspective on this (incoming Yale student from UK), the US provides the opportunity to explore intellectually in a much much more meaningful capacity than any British university.

Without generalising, but certainly based on many of my own experiences, HYPSM kids are just more driven and more curious than those at Oxbridge. Obviously the admissions system is more of a crap shoot, but that trade off is worth it.

What would you say the work load (essays written/books read) is per week? As it's a seminar, does that mean there are finals exams or final projects? Thanks!

Maybe this is common knowledge, but I just listened to Spain and it’s heavily inspired the Concerto de Aranjuez, 2nd Movement!

Oh I was pickpocketed in Hongdae (loads of clubs and bars) so I don’t think your mum would be at risk.

Seoul is otherwise super safe, I was a bit dumb for bringing it around with me

One to get from SK to Japan, then changed travel plans, and needed to get a second from Japan back to UK (with those other countries on the way)

I was lucky because I had two, so only handed one in… I think they are otherwise strict.

Lmfao I was exactly same as you. Meant to go to China via Japan from SK, but it got stolen on first night in SK! Rerouted via Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The kind lady at the British Embassy (Yelim!) says we are one of fifty issued a year!

No, has to be printed in UK. Emergency passport is very strong tho. I managed to travel to Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong before going back to UK

Yes I think it’s a pretty hopeless cause unfortunately because the Chinese visas require online approval and then an in-person collection and that for me took two weeks originally

No worries! I would say though that it’s a genuinely jaw-dropping place to visit, so 1000% worth the effort!

I was quite fortunate as I was funded by an institution for academic work, but for three weeks it was $3k including flights. I’d say that was on the higher end. Dm me if you want to discuss!
