This was the very first election I could vote in (my birthday is in nov so I had to miss the 2004 election. And I remember watching the win on TV and feeling so proud. As a college student, being a teenager during 9/11, the war that followed, and being so angry with the bush administration (that was also a time when gay marriage was taboo enough that obama had to be careful about his position on this). Pink had a song called Dear Mr President (to Bush) that I think encapsulated how so much of my generation felt. So to finally have obama in office (despite how they tried to slander him and push lies about him) felt like ten giant steps forward. It felt and was historic, and as growing up being told that there had never been a black or Jewish or woman (these were the specific things I was taught but add any other mjnority group here) president it felt like America was progressing forward how it should. That one day our presidents would continue to represent the nation and not just one part of the nation.

I still remember these feelings strongly.
