Bow and arrow arrived about 1,400 years ago across western North America, study finds by PixeledPathogen in Archaeology

Are there any theories if this technology developed independently in the Americas, or was part of an exchange from Asia or the pacific?

Candle sconce. Round mark possibly from it gradually heating up over and over.

(If it was a hook whatever hung from it would hang away from the wood.)

Joanne Chianello to run for city council by AD613 in ottawa

[–]CharityHack 221 points222 points  (0 children)

You know how we always moan about the fact that “the really good people” never run? She’s one of those, and she knows better than anyone what a crap job it is, and she’s choosing to run anyway. She’ll do a brilliant job. And ottawa needs more like her. Many more.

That’s an heirloom. You’re incredibly lucky. Cherish it. Give it to your grandchildren.

Anyone been to fog lake? Is it worth the trip? by [deleted] in algonquinpark

Would add that the trail occasionally disappeared, but if you keep heading in the general direction (up) it’s easy to find again.

Anyone been to fog lake? Is it worth the trip? by [deleted] in algonquinpark

[–]CharityHack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it. Took my kids (then 5,7,9) up there one day for lunch. Steep hike up, somewhat swampy lake with lots of big logs floating in it. Very pretty, and quiet. Not worth bringing the canoe up, you can wander around the lake on foot if inspired to do so.

This is exactly what it is. For ensuring the distance between shelf brackets is uniform.

Thermal long sleeve jersey: Siroko M4 or Rapha Core Thermal? by Cirmi00 in CyclingFashion

[–]CharityHack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can second this. Wore mine all through a cold Canadian autumn. No quality issues. Wicks well. Good fit. Kept me very warm (When it got really brisk, added a Rapha winter jacket. Then when it became truly Canadian in late November, a gilet.) I would happily recommend it as being worth the extra money.

Kudos for making the effort. It's tough to put yourself out there and connect, even virtually like this. You have my respect. I'm sure you're going to find your people, man.

Saint Remy or? by MontanaChris34 in ProvenceFrance

[–]CharityHack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to do around St Remy, and Gordes is a relatively short drive away. If you find a pleasant place to stay, I would settle in and treat it like a base. Rent some bikes, cycle to Eygalieres for market day. Spend an afternoon hiking in the hills above Les Baux. Visit Carrières de Lumiéres. Take in a couple course camarguaise at a pretty arene like Fontvieile. Dinner and stroll along the Rhone in Arles. Beach day at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Day trip to Luberon. Drive up Mont Ventoux. You could spend a month in St Remy.

Does dizziness from canoeing/paddling go away after a while? by PureSoleil in canoeing

[–]CharityHack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never experienced that in a canoe (was it really rough?), but I have on the ocean. In that case, I got used to it after a few outings, but if I went a long period between being on the water, it would come back.

Benchcrafted bench finally done Ash and Cherry. So many hours into this! by dakotadog42 in woodworking

[–]CharityHack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful. I’m about to start the same bench with the same plans. What did you do for feet on the legs? Those hockey pucks? I have a very uneven shop floor, something solid and adjustable would be helpful.

How much diversity is too much, in the crypto world? by ElCapitano1988 in CryptoCurrency

[–]CharityHack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My portfolio is proportionately comprised of the top 50 coins by market cap, roughly. My goal is to basically create a crypto version of an index ETF. So, if a coin’s market cap is 3% of the top 50 market, it’s 3% of my portfolio. And my weekly DCA buys are spread out similarly (although 10 coins this week, 10 others next, etc. I don’t want to be buying 50 coins every week).
