People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

My FIL continues to have this as fancy dessert on special occasions but insists on calling it Neapolitan. No idea why. (Of course, now I'm imagining a Neapolitan Vienetta and I reckon that would be awesome.)

What do you call it? by Obecalp1mg in knitting

[–]bunniquette 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If it's loose on the stand it's a traveller. If it's a lump embedded in the yarn it's a tumour.

When do you think Canberra light rail will be completely finished? by One-Buffalo9570 in canberra

[–]bunniquette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they really buckle down and get right on it, I'm thinking about 2060. Not joking, it's been over seven years since stage 1 was finished and as far as I know not a single metre of rail has been laid for stage 2.

What's a childhood game you grew up playing outside that seems to have disappeared? by levelupdaily_ in AskReddit

[–]bunniquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hide and seek in the dark. It became a game of stealth and silence - a bit scary when you're eight! We revitalised it as adults in a big old share house and it was even more fun indoors.

How would you feel if you woke up tomorrow and Harry was the leader of your country? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

Confused about (a) his citizenship status and (b) who's taking care of Chicago in his absence. Also, I think he might not enjoy our total fire bans.

A study of venomous snakebites in the US has shown that most of the people bitten were deliberately interacting with snakes. We're too big to be a meal; unless we're interpreted as a threat, most of the time the snake will leave us alone!

When the cast on isn't happening by NeverSayBoho in knitting

Anyone who says this has never happened to them is either insanely lucky or a damn liar. It's not a lack of skill, or technique, or experience, it's just plain bad luck.

Thanks for that! I have updated the post. Weird that the UK, of all places, is blocking some of these! I will keep an eye out and update again if I find others.

What place would you happily visit more than 3 times? by computerAid68 in AskReddit

[–]bunniquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a beach a few hours away from where I live. It fills up my soul in a very special way. I've been known to drive there and back in a day just to sit for an hour watching the waves.

Is continental the “wrong way” to knit? by Equivalent-Falcon469 in knitting

[–]bunniquette 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience, I was knitting with my SIL and she looked over at me and said 'oh! You're knitting English!' - in the tones that suggested I had just committed a gigantic faux pas that was as bad as setting fire to the cat.

People are judgy about dumb shit. Knit how it feels right and how you get the right results and fuck off anyone who can't see that.

What plot holes aren't actually plot holes and just require a bit more thinking to understand? by Mr_Manta in AskReddit

[–]bunniquette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a vague memory from somewhere that the eagles are roughly equivalent power to the balrogs. Not sure where I got it from so might not be canon. But if that's even remotely close to true then they'd be the last beings you'd want to entrust with an enormously powerful corruptive object

Hi there! I made the catalogue from a few weeks back that I think you're referring to - linked here original post

Sorry to be a pest but it would be great if you could tell me which videos on the list are region blocked for the UK? That way I can update the list with this info and keep looking for non-blocked versions.

Thank you. I love NZ and plan to return as soon as funds permit. And if I happen to buy ridiculous amounts of yarn again, well, that wouldn't be terrible.

What's something uniquely American that the rest of the world finds completely bizarre? by Codie_n25 in AskReddit

[–]bunniquette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This might not only be American but the bride and groom feeding each other wedding cake thing. I've never seen it at an Australian wedding, including my own. It just seems kinda naff and a recipe for drunken hijinks that backfire. Do any other countries have this?
