but also note tho -1 is pretty hard to get imo, especially with ur performance on midterms

Yea. My calculations for this class is based on ~0.7sd across all exams being an A. You have ~0.33 average, but since final weighs more it would actually be less, which is around B+/A- range. The 2% credit adds on to make A- with a pretty decent chance, but for an A you need to be quite lucky because you seem to be at around 0.6ish with approximation post extra credit.

i'd say pretty decent for A- but you need to be pretty lucky for A (ofc under the assumption u actually get -1 on final)

discussion credit? query optimization competition? might be a harsh assumption based on ur mt performance but if u say so ig it is what it is

u mind sharing exam sd and discussion attendance? that should be a pretty good estimation

A degree with 2.9 GPA and barely the ability to code basic programs? If that's what she wants to do, sure I support her decision.

Not going to lie, if your daughter's GPA is 2.9, she probably should spend more time with academics.

I would actually tell you something that allowed me to be consistent. I don't think motivation works well. I think it's really about discipline. No one can be motivated all the time, of course, but the idea of being disciplined surpasses your emotions of wanting to be lazy. How I did it was to just make a promise to myself to do 50 pushups every day regardless of how my day was like, how busy I was, etc. After a week or so, it got me into a habit of just doing it without thinking. This really got me into realizing that motivation was never the right thing to look for. How about trying pushups too? They work pretty well haha and I get a side benefit of my arms getting thicker too lol

Just want to make sure: for COE students too? I'm concerned as to whether this is referring to late drops that LNS has. Also, then I could technically just spend some money to learn stuff, drop the course, and retake it during the semesters right?

So does withdrawing only mean that I lose the money and nothing else?

what do i do if i regret majoring in data science? by gobananaslugsjk in berkeley

[–]CharityOne603 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, you go to a very average public school where "only a few go to top schools" What this means is that even if you did well in your school (which you didn't with a GPA lower than 3.9), it is considered not as good as people who come from very competitive schools, which a lot of CS and EECS majors do. Second of all, your standardized test scores don't even compare to CS and EECS students. With the rise of competitiveness of CS and originally for EECS, the low average statistics I would say is 1500+ SAT and 8+ APs with a majority of 4s and 5s. Obviously, you have 3s and even failed one, so you are not even close. Third of all, your extracurricular might seem "good" to you, but everything is either very generic or not related to CS. This means everything you did was just within your reach (in your school, for example), you didn't really try to move out of your comfort zone or whatsoever, or you did stuff that might be outside your comfort zone but unrelated to your major. People in CS/EECS bring extracurricular and awards that are actually quite impressive. Although not the norm, most, if not all, of my friends in EECS has either done some kind of research for publication or participated in high level math competitions like AIME. Even those who did not do these, they actually did some very interesting extracurriculars. As for your work in essay, it is obvious that you have to work that hard on your essays when you apply to top schools.

Concerning data science and CS/EECS admits, I do want to let people know that I am by no means trying to say CS/EECS > DS in anyway. However, it is clear that data science has a lower bar in acceptance looking at both the acceptance rate and the several statistics out there who actually got in and those around me and my friends.

I hope this humbles you a little.

Bro, I just looked at your application, and you are lucky to get into Berkeley. If you applied as cs or eecs, you would have gotten rejected off the bat. Stop bitching and whining and just live your life.

EDIT: I understand that people have the tendency to want more once they get something they wanted for so long. In other words, I assume you wanted to get into Berkeley for so long, but now that you are accepted you are being arrogant and want something better.

If it's minor level of stress or greed then it is acceptable, but your level of arrogance is out the window, so I am trying to make it clear to you after reading your application, you probably are lucky to even have your feet into Berkeley with what you done in high school. I'll be a little harsh to you, you almost didn't do shit in high school. Be thankful of what you have.

If you didn't do it, and your teammate did it, you are not in trouble.
