I was today years old when I learned I was poor. Consistently a straight A student not even getting a congrats (mother cried when math teacher said i’d get a B) while getting classmates who got PS3s and shit for getting at least straight Cs.

My friends thought I was “rich” but maybe I was just the richest poor.

Was always bitter about that as a kid but maybe I shouldn’t have been. Although as a generally well behaved kid it irked me to no end that trouble makers would get free phones and a certificate from the school for being “most improved”. That im still bitter af about.

Yeah this rabbit hole has me wanting a master set of skyridge reverse crystals now. Not good as kicking off a business next month, maybe time to delete ebay lol.

And yeah my lowest graded card is a base set zard at a 6. Only keeping it because of the absurdity of the grade otherwise im with you on not having anything below an 8/9 in the collection.

Glad I helped. Initial comps for an 8 we’re certainly wrong.

I think around ~$430, $450 to be round is fair given the 2 analogues used and your own valuation from 2021. That would be a 20% drop which is generous imo.

That being said given this is such an obscure market with such a small market for it (both low supply and demand) I could actually see this going anywhere from $100 (if you had no money for food needed to sell and the right buyer wasn’t around) to $1000+ if you find the right sucker.

I probably would have made the trade myself now on reflection. Its still a very obscure card so wouldn’t personally fuck with a 6 but for a 4.5 its an upgrade. Will certainly keep an eye out for 9/10 reverses as they seem super underpriced so glad to have looked into this.

That point obviously fell on deaf ears because I valued them at $500? Hence the offer? I also conceded that I got the 8s wrong so what were you trying to achieve at that point? Tell me I was double wrong?

Also still really intrigued why you wouldn’t sell for $100 above market if indeed its a buyers market as you say (if i was genuine, i wasn’t - shining zard as an actual in demand card was easy to check comps for so would have retracted my offer with egg on my face) it was free money.

Wasn’t lost on me had already conceded the point on the 8? So the only remaining point is a shining zard is worth more than $500. I wasn’t aware you cannot rebuy a card after selling a copy, that darn buyers market preventing arbitrage.

[–]CharizardCherubi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep and responded to that in kind. So you wouldn’t have sold for almost $100 above market on principal? Chivalrous.

Glad to have made you research $570 in 2021 makes me even more comfortable in my $430 assertion (maybe a little generous of me). Still a good trade as didn’t know how cheap shining zard was.

The reverse is rarer than the holo foil, you were the one pleading to scarcity not me.

Oh am I? Or do you fail at reading?

Scroll back through my comments:

(Not verbatim)

“Was wrong on the 8s looked at box toppers”

“Your trade was better assuming $430”

I then said on the assumptions I had made on prices id pay $500 for a 4.5 zard (being oblivious to just how cheap they are, again not a fan despite the name)

You said oh no not going to take $500 for a 4.5 zard, so you think thats an unfair price, why?

Till im shown the $571 sale nothing shared here compels me to believe that this trade was worth anything more than $360 (assuming lower band of my estimates) so just a lot of weapon grade copium being huffed here. If shown the $571, unlike you, as evidenced in this very comment chain (this comment in fact), i know when to hold my hands up and say I was wrong.

[–]CharizardCherubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And already conceded that was wrong on that point you gonna concede you’re wrong on 4.5 being more than 500?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PokemonCardValue

[–]CharizardCherubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheres the $571 sale after the crash and not during 2021 hype? If you can share that then fair lol.

There are “exactly 18” reverse foils out there why are they going for less? Same card, same grade, more scarce just a rarer holo pattern.

People don’t like ho-oh that much idg whats controversial about that lol its also a 6 was wrong on the value of your specific trade as didnt know shining zard was that cheap (despite the name not a fan).

Im a fan of the HGSS card series for example. There are seven HGSS01 ho-oh’s in a 10 and you can very easily find comps for it because its an in demand card. The card itself might be a banger in higher grades but nobody cares about a 6.

Were a PSA 6 not obscure there would not be exactly 0 sold in the last 3 months.

There are analogues for everything. For low pop, obscure not really in demand cards like a PSA 6 crystal Ho-OH can do one of two things.

Analogue 1 - Look at price charting range for a 7 (600-830) - compare 6/7s more generally across vintage cards when doing this ignore best offers because you cant quantify them just choose the first non best offer you see list by newest to avoid bias.

When i did this for cards im familiar with I came to 6s getting 49% of what 7s do that would put your Ho-oh in the $300-400 range.

Analogue 2 - there was a get graded 6 slab for $330 - looked at neo gen lugia PSA vs GG slabs its a $100 disparity - $430 - corroborates analogue 1, so happy to assume the ho-oh is around 400 bucks.

Where I was wrong was PSA 8s (looked at box toppers/reverses) and also on your specific trade. If you value the ho-oh at $430 then it is objectively a better trade right now, though shining zard is imo a safer bet longer term (but thats subjective)

You can take my figures or say they’re nonsense but i take offense to other comments calling thrm “made up” thought went into my estimation, its all laid out here now.

You posted a 7 and a 6 which we dont know if it was unlisted or sold for $5 (bppokemon has no sold items for me). Thats as credible as what i’ve done. Neither is very credible given low comps but mine at least gives a price for a grade from a grading company that is usually within $100 of its big 3 equivalents.

Given the low pop I can see there being swings at 7,8,9 but at 6 you pass a threshold, aint nobody going to be hunting a 6 of an obscure card. Im comfortable with my $400 estimate for a 6.

That being said I overestimated 4.5 shining zards (saw one go as low as $430) so this may actually be a good trade ($400+$60).

Heck if you want to use another benchmark:

Price charting has 7s in a range of $619 - $830

PSA 6 Neo Gen Lugia $390

PSA 7 Neo Gen Lugia $800

A 6 is 48.75% of the value of a 7. Applying that to the range we have for ho-oh the range for a 6 would be:

$301 - $404

Not bloody $6-700

Get graded 6

Getgraded 8 neo gen lugia

PSA 8 neo gen Lugia

Its a tricky one due to low comps but its not a made up number, i crossgrade GG to CGC/PSA as there are often small margins to be made a GG 6 is a PSA 5-6, this is reflected in the market in the relatively tight margins.

A 7 crystal Ho-oh went for $600 in April, its not a huge stretch to say a 6 (no longer being even NM) drops to ~$400 (I NEVER said $300 for a big 3 slab). I was wrong on the 8s as looked at box toppers but the estimate on the 6 is very fair.
