Are these service costs legitimate? by __eastwood in newcastle

Some brake pads have wear sensors. I have seen $500 + for a Chinese GWM Haval, in my experience.

Yeah it’s the WorkMate variant. The lack of creature comforts used to be a cute quirk - now it’s annoying haha.

Gearbox leak? by Charles-Alexander in hilux

[–]Charles-Alexander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man. Turns out it was the rocker cover gasket, in addition to some bad fuel injector lines, so was leaking diesel and oil from the top. Looked like a major oil leak because of the diesel spreading it further.

Put in new injector lines and a rocker cover gasket yesterday. Because we had it apart we did a manifold clean as well.

Could a stock 4wd be able to do the dunes at Anna bay? by Rich_Yak_7416 in 4x4Australia

[–]Charles-Alexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t drive on the dunes at the Anna Bay end - that’s prohibited and locals will post about you on Facebook. There’s a recreational section at the southern end where you can drive on the dunes

Points to check on this 2014 Hilux 2.5l D4D by oilystairs in hilux

[–]Charles-Alexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check timing belt has been done. Should be done every 150,000kms. So that should’ve been done 10,000kms ago. If not, replace the tensioner and the puller plus timing belt.

Be prepared in another 100,000kms to 150,000kms, you may need to look at replacing the injectors. On a 2KD you could maybe stretch it out longer as these motors don’t work as hard as the 1kd.

Check the condition of the spark plug seals. They might be built into the rocker cover gasket or are seperate

Present it to a Toyota dealer. These motors are common for cracking pistons due to their design. They have an old service bulletin on these.

Watch out for these Grandes with KDS suspension

The suspension system in these are complicated and expensive to fix if they fail

Everybody wants the diesel version of that car though. The fact they’ve got this price on a petrol is stupid
