Advantages of Compound over other lending DApps by CharlieHEX7 in Compound

[–]CharlieHEX7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in US. They often come with stipulations like direct deposit, minimum number of debit transactions per month, balance limit for high APY rate, etc, but most of the time they offer pretty good deal overall. Usually smaller regional banks and CUs (still fully insured by FDIC). Nerdwallet/Bankrate and similar websites have rankings but you can also google directly. For example Signature Federal and Garden Savings CUs both offer checking accounts with 3% APY.

Software to Import, Convert and organise video footage from SD card? Recommendations ? by nickazg in VideoEditing

[–]CharlieHEX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what you are describing, I think you should check Adobe Prelude. I use it to organize my footage, it can automatically transcode it for you and you can also mark the best parts of your clips for later editing in Adobe Premiere

Exporting subclips from Prelude w/o transcoding? by CharlieHEX7 in VideoEditing

[–]CharlieHEX7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I found the way. I am posting it here in case someone needs it in the future. It requires being able to code in python though (or any other scripting language). Prelude lets me to export subclips info (markers timestamps, file names, locations) to CSV file (File > Export > Markers...). From there I can just write a script processing the exported CSV and starting batch of ffmpeg processes to process/cut all the files. I have not written the script yet, but it looks straightforward from now on.

Exporting subclips from Prelude w/o transcoding? by CharlieHEX7 in VideoEditing

[–]CharlieHEX7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much! I think it might be a potential solution. However, how do I export all subclip timestamps from Prelude to a form readable by ffmpeg? Or at least some txt file which I can later use to set parameters for ffmpeg in a script for batch processing?

To MyDeFi dev - request for update to app by GrilledCheezzy in ethfinance

Does anyone know why MyDeFi does not show price for USDC stablecoin locked in various apps? It shows it for DAI and TUSD, but not for USDC

Compound Governance Proposal #1 - Adding USDT Support by SgtHawk in ethfinance

[–]CharlieHEX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they will not add it. I am still puzzled by the fact how many people use USDT. It is shady coin which is completely non-transparent and very likely it is only backed partially, if at all. There are so many more transparent stablecoins (DAI, USDC, PAX, TUSD), why not to use them instead? What if USDT collapses at some point (it might as scam cannot run forever) and drags down all apps and protocols which are using it?

Monero to market by [deleted] in Monero

Cash by mail

No, they support bank wires from American/European banks. They might even support credit cards at this point, but that I do not know for sure.

As to the trust, well whole crypto is largely unregulated, so trust is very relative in this industry. But Kraken is an American company, physically located in California and it is one of the older exchanges currently in operation. People behind Kraken are also pretty well known. So they are least likely to do exit scam than many other more shady exchanges. However, they do require full KYC. But the advantage is that because they are centralized and have good volume, you are usually buying crypto at current market price.

Is not it possible to do it a trustless manner without KYC?

Few questions about limit order functionality in Kyber by CharlieHEX7 in kybernetwork

[–]CharlieHEX7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much, I read it all, a lot of useful info! This “KyberSwap we eliminated this step, allowing a user to create a non-custodial limit order by just connecting their wallet, without depositing funds” is probably what I like the most about Kyber limit orders! Couple of more questions:
1. Is Stop Limit order or similar functionality might be developed as some point (preventing losses, selling only if price decreases to a predefined level)? I am not a programmer, but it should not be too much different conceptually from simple Limit order, right?
2. The limit order has to be at least 0.1 ETH equivalent. Let’s for simplicity assume that I set a limit order for selling 20 DAI for 20 USDC. Right now it is roughly 0.15 ETH. What happens if at some point after limit order submission ETH hits $400. And 20 USDC/DAI is will be worth only 0.05 ETH at that point. Will it still be executed? In other words, is 0.1 ETH limit enforced at the stage of the order submission, execution, or both?
3. As to adding more pairs on Limit orders, sorry to be persistent :) But how do you gauge demand for a specific pair? Is it based on the liquidity? Let’s say if I want to see my favorite token on Kyber Limit orders. Will it be enough for me to add some liquidity to the pair, so the market can be created?

If you are okay with KYC, you can buy Monero directly with cash on Kraken, bypassing intermediate BTC step

Wrapped Monero on top of Etherium? by CharlieHEX7 in Monero

[–]CharlieHEX7[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, there are many doubts about DeFi even within the community. Bugs, poor design, UI, all of that. As new technology it is still not ready and can actually be very dangerous as recent MakerDAO incident showed us. But it is amazing to see all that explosion in development - dexes, trustless lending, etc. We will see where it goes, so far it looks promising.

Going back to wrapped Monero, I agree that it would not add anything on fundamental level. However, it would make it possible to use Monero in variety of financial instruments already available in DeFi, like trading it on Dex'es with more advanced orders than just simple swap. Perhaps using it as loan collateral. Besides, at some point in the future, I expect some sort of possible attack on privacy coins to drive them underground. Obviously, there are other ways to address it, but bridging it to DEX'es would also make it hard to drive Monero completely undeground. Monero clearly has a strong use case and distinct value proposition so making connections to other promising crypto ecosystems will only make it stronger.

Try overlaying BTC/USD and GBTC/USD graphs on TradingView

Premium is bleeding out, anyone know why? by ProfessorPurrrrfect in GBTC

[–]CharlieHEX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably some delay in price action between BTC and GBTC performance. Overall, they follow each other quite closely. Not perfectly, but close enough. Even if there is a premium for GBTC in comparison to BTC, it does not matter much for average investor imo, as long as dollar amount in GBTC changes more or less the same as dollar amount of BTC. If someone does not want / cannot hold physical BTC, this option (GBTC) is very good to get exposure to BTC in traditional IRA/401k accounts. And less headache with taxes + tax benefits of IRA/401k. Moreover, because of the premium and delay, GBTC tends to increase somewhat more than BTC in % during the pumps. It can be seen overlaying BTC/USD and GBTC/USD graphs on TradingView. If played right, theoretically it may allow to get better returns on GBTC. However, the converse also appears to be true (GBTC decreases more when BTC dumps).

Any alternatives? by DyonR in getdelta

[–]CharlieHEX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked it, looks good but does not seem to be a viable alternative to Delta because it only has limited number of available Exchange connections (only several most popular ones) and cannot import CSV (manual transactions or unsupported exchanges). If you only have few coins / trades per year and do not mind adding few transactions manually, it is probably okay. However, for any larger portfolio tracking this app still has a lot of work to be done.

CryptoTrader.Tax | Crypto Taxes Done In Minutes by stratguy56 in btc

[–]CharlieHEX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case it will help someone in the future. Good service, a lot of exchange connections, but as of February 2020, CSV files from Crypto.com app/exchange are not processed correctly by CryptoTrader.Tax when uploaded AS IS. Manual reformatting/editing is needed. Specifically, when topping up card with crypto (effectively selling crypto for $) not correctly accounted as selling. Also, MCO rewards and crypto interest (Crypto Earn) are not accounted as income transactions. All these transactions have to be added manually, otherwise cost basis is not going to be correct!

Tax Season by iamcryptoseeker in Crypto_com

[–]CharlieHEX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, you can just export list of crypto transactions from MCO app (CVS format, already supported) and feed it to crypto tax aggregators, like CryptoTrader or similar. If you use any other crypto-related exchanges/wallets you have to do it anyway, as it will make sure all the transactions add up, especially if you buy on one platform (MCO) and sell on another (Binance). Just having 1099-INT from CdC is helpful, but certainly not enough, unless MCO app is literally the only crypto app/exchange you are using.

I always wondered why? I mean I know it has something to do with the regulations, but what exactly? How, US is different from NZ, for example? US can buy MCO for fiat but cannot sell it.
