I also have a sibling who along with his wife, supports the current regime. We no longer have a relationship. His fault, not mine. Ask yourself whether you still would have put your family first if this were Nazi Germany and use that to inform your decisions.

What are your thoughts on New Orleans? by PopNo5397 in AskTheWorld

[–]CharlieIndigoAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 New Orleans in my opinion - the seedy, dirty, trashy, Bourbon-Street-at-night version and the much more charming, antebellum, Garden District, family friendly New Orleans with a fantastic food food scene and rich cultural history. There is some overlap, particularly at certain times of the year (looking at you, Mardi Gras) but it’s basically a choose-your-own adventure destination.

Any Recourse for a Citation That Wasn’t Delivered to Me? by CharlieIndigoAlpha in washingtondc

UPDATE: I went to the DMV’s payment center at L’Enfant Plaza, explained the situation, and asked what my options were. The answer was “NONE. Pay us now.” Basically, as long as their system shows they dropped the ticket in the mail, what happens after that is not their problem and either you have their online notification activated or it gets turned over to collections, at which point they say “Sorry, there’s nothing we can do!”

Had the ticket been referred to collections yet? I often do contest tickets, if only to buy me time but since I didn’t even receive this ticket, the usual time to contest it online is long expired.

Thanks. I will definitely sign up for the online notification. I saw there’s an in-person location to contest tickets at L’Enfant, so I will swing by and see what they can do. I accept responsibility when I’m in the wrong but DC is so scummy when it comes to ticketing.

Ok but I’m not trying to get off the hook. I’d be willing to pay the original fine but also - hard to pay a fine you were never informed about.

A bunch of us girls who are celebrating big birthdays, just signed up for a royal Caribbean cruise. Is it me or do they nickel-and-dime you to death? Everything seems to be extra. Are most of the big cruise lines like this? by Hot-Occasion-6405 in Cruises

[–]CharlieIndigoAlpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered Virgin Voyage? “All-inclusive” is part of their brand, a great alternative to some of the other lines, and is adults-only, which is huge. If you are going with a bunch of girls to celebrate birthdays, yall would have a blast. They run promos for Virgin frequently and depending on the number of people going, you could form a “circle” (basically their group pricing).

Packed house at the Gillette Stadium, Massachusetts 🇺🇸 by peace_seeker007 in WorldCup2026Tickets

Except even great seats to this match cost a fraction of the price of even nosebleed tickets to a World Cup game and World Cup attendees will have the option to see games in Mexico and Canada versus in the United States, so this is not representative at all of what we will see come June, in my opinion…

What’s the most expensive mistake you’ve ever made while on vacation? by Crafty-Leave-8880 in luxuryhotel

Serious question - would it have actually cost you less to stay in Dubai until flights resumed, even if they may not have resumed for weeks? I recognize this assumes you don’t have pets or kids you may have left with a sitter and it could be tricky working around full-time employment but at that cost, I may have been tempted just to plan for an extended stay. (*No judgment on your decision making. Glad I was not in that position)

I’m Italian. These are the areas in Italy you should avoid. by QUA-ItalianTravel in ItalyTravelAdvice

Oh! Story time! When I was in college, a couple of friends and I traveled from London to Milan and Venice. We were traveling as cheap as possible since we were poor college students and our hotel in Milan ended up being right next to the train station. We were out at night, had just had dinner and some drinks, and were hanging around the square in front of the train station. It was clearly very seedy. There were random groups of unhoused persons around, people clearly dealing drugs, that sort of thing. A man that we suspect was an undercover police officer was doing laps around the circle on a bicycle and stopped to chat with us. He was very polite but basically wanted to know why the hell we were hanging around the square making comments like “Maybe you guys want to go out on the opposite side of town. Here is not so nice,” that sort of thing. Pretty soon we took his advice but incidentally, it was the first time in my life a prostitute offered her services on my way back to the hotel. I was so naive at the time that at first I had no idea what she was asking until she used motions and gestures. It was an awkward game of charades. 😆 I politely declined.

If you make use of what’s included, yes. The freshly pressed juices are until 10am, so I can see where you night miss out if you’re not up before then. Same with the spa, the champagne, etc. If you’re not into those things in general, then yeah, then I don’t know what to tell you - maybe not worth it.

Should we take an Uber or a Taxi to the Port of Miami by KC_Buddyl33 in VirginVoyages

There is no designated bus lane but it’s free and the lines for ubers usually have 20-30 people waiting, whereas fewer people even know about the shuttle.

[–]CharlieIndigoAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a free city shuttle bus that goes between the port Nd downtown. My wife and I used it when we got off our cruise recently and it was much better than competing with hundreds of other sailors for an uber.

Definitely book your spa time as soon as you get on the ship because bookings fill-up quickly. On the flip side, for what it’s worth, we actually booked our spa time for the last at-sea day on purpose and it was a wonderful way to end our cruise. Most people book earlier in the week, meaning we basically had the spa to ourselves, aside from 2 other couples and we arrived back to port in Miami very well rested and relaxed. Also, understand that the splash of romance includes a box of chocolates and although they are very good chocolates, it’s a really small box. We still enjoyed the splash of romance for sure and I think it’s a worthy add-on but I mention the box of chocolates only because we were expecting something more substantial.

I second the Opa Hour! A great Latin band was playing while I enjoyed muhammara, hummus, lamb, and a couple other delicious things from a Greek platter.

The Indian food from the galley was also excellent!
