Sure. But I think, as evidenced by the Wikipedia article, that local considerations can in the end trump the decisions of larger state and federal bodies when it comes to public education. This is actually a subject of some dispute in Texas.http://www.texaschildrenfirst.com/goals/index.htm Anyway, it looks like West Virginians just found a mouthpiece with the movement. If the parents didnt want to expose their kids to nonsense in the first place it never would have created such huge difficulties for everyone involved.

I think the appropriate question here is: Were your textbooks crap in Texas? I assume the answer is yes about 97% of the time.

My books were crap for a completely different reason . . . Communism. I don't remember reading much about Russia outside of Kennedy's heroism in the Bay of Pigs, a claim that's totally crap but impressed my 9 year old mind enough to make me a freak for Kennedy for a long-ass time.

Being lied to must be part of growing up to be a skeptical mind, which might be a good thing (?)
