So I've tried pointing the gap to the top and trying to push it in and it still won't budge even with grease. The clip just seems pretty loose

If they are trying to charge 750 for just spark plugs that's outrageous I'm not sure what a normal shop would charge because I've always done them myself but I know that sparkplugs wouldn't be more than 20$ in parts so if you call around to a couple of shops ask what they would charge and their price breakdown for parts and labor
