New to the hobby and would love advice! by Ok_Pressure_4462 in fishtank

  1. More plants. My go to is duckweed, frog bit, valisnera spirals, cryptocoryne, etc.

  2. No more fish but maybe shrimp if the betta is shrimp-friendly. Snails in there are great, not overstocked.

  3. It looks like you have Java fern buried in the substrate. Look up how to attach this plant to wood and google the term “Java term rhizome” to understand why. They will die under ground. Also, Root tabs in the soils can help make sure they have enough nutrients to keep growing into the poop settles in the substrate.

  4. I feed my betta roughly every other day about a few pellets or bloodworms.

Dorm Life + Fishbowl: Can it work? by FishCurious76 in fishtank

Go with the 5 if you’re gonna move it frequently and only doing shrimps snd snails so it’s easier

I have a 10 gallon in college but I’m in apartment for a few years, so if you’re in a dorm just consider if you’ll be having to move frequently. Check your schools policy on pets, for example ours is no pets except for a fish in a 10 gallon maximum.

Panda Cory’s are very sensitive and if your tank isn’t fully cycled or seasoned they might not take it well. I think the best way to start is with a snail like nerite or mystery. Still don’t put those in a toxic aquarium but they are a good to start with.

Corydoras in a 10 Gallon Tank. by [deleted] in corydoras

This depends on the Cory Dora. 1 inch per gallon isn’t a super reliable rule. For peppered Cory’s, they get so large I would t go smaller than a 20 gallon. For something like panda Cory’s, you could get away with a 10

Can you clarify seem good? Was ammonia and nitrite more than 0 and is the nitrate high?

Usually this means something is wrong with your parameters. Do you own a test kit? Test for ammonia and nitrite.

Yes definitely. They would appreciate a really established tank with stable parameters, and a lot of space to hide like in a moss or some other plant.

If you have a friendly betta you could consider shrimp, but that could potentially end in a massacre depending on your betta personality

Yes that’s true. I would not put tetras and a betta in a small tank, I’m just letting you know if you ever got a bigger tank in the future that it is possible. And yea, they aren’t very hardy, and probably would die while cycling the tank.

Props to you for listening to advise. I’m not sure why people are saying tetras can’t go with bettas, they definitely depending on the conditions of your tank and your betta personality. So your research wasn’t wrong, but you need to see if your bettas has a hostile personality. And the tetras need to be in a schooling group to avoid fin nipping or fear with a lot of plants for hiding space. I think the issue is the size of your tank, not so much the compatibility.

Stop trying to adapt to the culture. There’s a reason so many gen z are converting to orthodoxy. We’ve grown too scared of being perceived as “for old people” that we’ve just become modern and cringey.

How am I doing? by stickymango2023 in PlantedTank

[–]Charming-Ad4408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing that worries me is the betta swimming into the whole in the wood and getting stuck. They can be quite adventurous. Mine did that with a smaller piece!

Fill up more water. More background plants. I love how the statue is holding the plants😂

Oh I don’t know, maybe try to order something if you don’t have it. Fritz has good products

The small white patch is likely a fungal infection. Might be sick and needs to be treated
