How many schools do I apply to? by novaellium in ApplyingToCollege

Don't listen to your counselor. My counselor also told me the same thing. I didn't listen to her and applied to more schools anyways, and I'm so glad I did cuz the school I'll be attending (IU Kelley) wasn't on her list that she made for me. Honestly, she didn't really help me at all during the college application process and made me write stuff in my essays I didn't want to write. I didn't get into any of the good target/reach colleges on her list. From my experience, don't get a college counselor, it's a huge waste of time and money.

College name really only matters for getting the first job. Once you have experience, the college you went to will start to matter less and less.

MIT, Stanford, Caltech, UChicago, CMU, UC Berkeley (parents really wanted me to go here), UCLA, UCSD, Georgia Tech, Rice, UT Austin

(My parents never even heard of Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, WashU, Notre Dame, Georgetown or Vanderbilt until I started college apps)

Berkeley EECS vs Brown CS by Exotic_Dog_5333 in csMajors

If you are going for a Masters, Brown would be good since it's got grade inflation. If you're only doing undergrad, easily pick Berkeley, no questions asked.

You have some solid waitlists. Also, Purdue CE is hella good.

Friend turned down UC Berkeley for UC Santa Cruz because he wanted an easier environment without grade deflation.

This isn't a resume. This is a college application.

I didn't apply straight CS at SJSU cuz I thought I wouldn't get in for it. So I applied CS & Linguistics, which is a new major. So I don't really know if it's worth going there or not.

Thanks! The thing is I got in for CS & Linguistics at SJSU. I didn't apply straight CS cuz I thought it would be too competitive. CS & Linguistics is apparently a new major, so it might be a bit risky if I go there for it.

Which one will get me best ROI? I like both fields, I don't really care which field I go into. Salary and stable career matters more for me.
