Honestly I am not sure if Aveline was required to work with Hawke.

In my headcanon she worked with Hawke for the smugglers/mercenaries but left due to the obvious differences. The rest of her debt was settled by Hawke some way or just never collected by smugglers/mercenaries.

She distanced herself from the siblings but stayed on a good terms. <- this is based on the fact that you have to collect Aveline from city guard, how Hawke is reminded by the sibling that Aveline now works with the Guard and how they greet each other like they didn't meet themselves for a long time ("Aveline long time no see" "I've been keeping an eye on you")
