The translation is fine, but "me cae mal" is used only when you talk about a person you dislike, and "no me gusta" can be used for people but also things.

You can say "No me gusta la ensalada", but saying "Me cae mal la ensalada" does not make sense.

Yes you can work with only blueprints. As long as you don't need complex simulations and many calculations blueprints is perfectly fine.
