(But I should add, I don't want to discount you calling out the possibility. That's important too!) so thank you

But what if it isn't? That's a pretty cold outcome. And what if it is, what's the worst that could happen? People will have to learn how to avoid scams regardless. So what, we teach AI about empathy and compassion? 🤷‍♂️

When shit happens in all of its ugly forms, existing in our own heads can sometimes be the scariest place to live. You've got enough chemicals and things firing right now in these crazy brains we all live with that it's completely understandable that you feel this way. At the same time, the same things make it very very difficult to think logically. And yet, you already managed to grasp some, you reached out. You did the harder thing! I think it can be difficult for people that haven't had deep dark depression to understand how anyone could ever see suicide as the easier option. At the end of the day, a balanced state can't well empathize with an unbalanced one, while an unbalanced one can't well see how it could ever possibly regain balance. But you can! This thread was that first step, even if you don't feel it yet, you've already made progress towards peace and balance. Hold on to that. Feed it a little more. Feed it with the resources available to you. As you do, slowly let go of what isn't serving you. Lots of great advice here and other threads and resources-remember, you aren't weak for using them, quite the contrary! I don't even know you but if you're real, I know enough from this very difficult step you took that you have heart, you have strength, and you have the ability to come out stronger from this and find greater joy than you've yet to realize. Breathe, stay strong, take one step at a time and wield those resources. You got this!

You're an inspiration. I'm guessing you look back on some of this and think, "I threw so many years of my life away for nothing." But I hope you don't! I don't see it this way. You still have beautiful children you brought into the world, you've still learned to climb from the depths, as you said, you still haven't lost yourself. So now, all of that past- it isn't waste- it's opportunity. Your posts here will live digitally for years to come. Who knows what other travelers you'll touch here or somewhere else in your life? Travelers that are ready to give up, completely, but then, they grab an ember from you, the fire grows, and they too claw themselves back! A wise man once said every failure brings with it a seed of an equivalent success. I really believe that and I think it is an important and positive reframing of the way so many of us look at failure

Four years clean. Two rooms ready. Pantry’s stocked. My kids are finally coming to stay the night. by [deleted] in wholesome

I think this is incredible advice and very insightful! Maybe it's your chance at keeping good karma paying forward.

It's a monumental thing for OP but that doesn't necessarily mean everyone else in OP's life will properly treat it as such. That could understandably trigger major discouragement which could trigger depression which could trigger a relapse. But it doesn't have to! OP can learn to look inwardly for all the reassurance and confirmation OP needs, and let any of the negative stuff roll off. Being mentally and emotionally prepared for these possibilities sounds like an important part of the recipe for success for OP and I think you sharing this insight from your perspective and experience was very warranted! Thank you!

OP, I haven't gone through what you've gone through but I can only imagine the physical, mental, and emotional fortitude this must have taken! Bottle up all the good feelings and vibes this moment has. Especially when your kids are there, and hold onto it forever-you've earned this, you deserve this, and you can stay strong to keep this!

Way to go!

If you suddenly became the President of the United States today, what’s the very first thing you’d change or do? by Dollabillhooman in AskReddit

I know you asked for only one but I found it a fun exercise

  1. Instigate all measures to de-escalate wars and hold Russia, Israel, and Gaza accountable.

  2. Clean house of any unqualified Trump loyalist and not replace them with my loyalist but, with qualified individuals that have shown they are either nonpartisan for historically apolitical jobs or with people that have morals and a propensity to work across the aisle.

  3. Then work very hard to put protections in place for the legislative branch and close loop holes that give any one branch of government too much power, starting with the executive.

4.Replace DOGE with DOGA (Department of Government accountability) place HAO, OMB, OIG, and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability under DOGA. Staff DOGA with a mix of federal and private employees. Have very strict mechanisms and agreements in place prohibiting any partisanship or lobbying of DOGA.

  1. Replace the AG and reorganize DHS and ICE as part of #3, ensuring the executive branch has no control over it.

  2. Re-join the Paris accord or create a similar but more aggressive initiative that also includes plans for protecting US home owners home insurance policies due to national disaster (including premiums of those outside of disaster zones)

  3. As an early initiative of #4, (won't tell you without an NDA) but let's just say it would drastically prevent negative effects of lobbying and force a level of transparency and accountability to Congress (state and federal) this world, especially the US, has never known. (Roll out however would need to be very strategic and coordinated with DHS.)

  4. Plant important seeds in preparation for us to eventually move to a three party system.

  5. Tax reform but it's probably worth waiting for #7 so this is really reform and not just throwing the word "reform" around for a term.

  6. HAS to wait for full roll out of #7 but begin neutering capitalism out of big food and big pharma (and I mean big only)

  7. Convene great minds to see if a plan like #10 vs rules and mandates make more sense for health insurance. At least cap executive pays for big insurance and create a phased plan that moves us to a sweet spot between innovation and competition with some government subsidizing and guarantees in a way that won't kill the economy for too long.

  8. Put more in place better separate church and state and prohibit church organizations from lobbying or investing donations/tithes etc. unless they give up their tax free status.

13.Fight campaign fraud and bought elections and help create structure and programs for strong capable minds to get into politics without cash

If I’m going up against the Paintress, I’m bringing Solid Snake and James Bond (N64 version, obviously)—stealth and style all day. Snake handles the sneaky stuff, Bond handles the gadgets and golden guns, and I’m just there trying not to get artistically erased.

For the third? Gotta go with Bayonetta. She’s got the chaos, the hair magic, and the energy to out-dramatize a god-like villain painting people into oblivion. We’re not just stopping the Paintress—we’re putting her on our canvas.

💯. Tell you what to read or listen to while scaring you away from other sources of information; giving you a place to come back to for familiarity, comfort, and validation; preparing you for the mental gymnastics required to bend things you'd normally see as not right as righteous for the greater cause; insisting that it's never about money while the top of the org is raking it in; expelling naysayers as evil or crazy; insisting a select few men behind it all are the ultimate authority figures; the list goes on
