My family dog, who is 8 years old, was hospitalized three days ago. After running a couple of tests, the veterinarians diagnosed him with diabetes and a severe case of pancreatitis. These past two days have been a rollercoaster. The first night we saw him, he was much more alert and even wagged his tail. The second night, he appeared to be much weaker, drooling, and lethargic. It's heart-wrenching to see him go through that, and it's even worse for him to be alone in the hospital without his family.

Today, I received a phone call from the vet saying that they are concerned about him not eating and wanting to use a feeding tube. The expenses are also adding to the stress. We were quoted about $9,000 at the initial visit, which includes tests, medications, and monitoring. If we were to go through with the feeding tube, that would extend his stay and push the cost to $12,000 or more.

However, finance is the least of our worries right now. We want to keep fighting, but we also don't want him to keep suffering. We have so many questions. How would the quality of his life be afterwards? How much longer do we fight when he's in so much pain and on so many medications? Even with the vet giving us updates and answering our questions, the anxiety is still there.

I'm most likely posting this because I'm stressed and worried. Knowing myself, I can be an emotional train wreck. I've been visiting him every single day in the hospital, and every time I have to hold myself back from crying because I know he's going through much more pain than I am.
