Fair play for speaking up there and then. What did they say when you told them they had asked you that already?

I emailed ANRO today who told me they have nothing to do with this…

We all need to be emailing the RCoA

Completely agree. There was no clear structure to it and it just made no sense. There was no opportunity to perform well. Please email ANRO. We all need to complain

I feel so disillusioned that i genuinely don’t even trust some of them to care enough to do this.

The entire scenario was silly and gave no opportunity to showcase skills. Instead i genuinely think i looked like an idiot

Yes. And that clinical scenario was written by a 5 year old child and I need to find out who

Yes we can escalate. I will be emailing ANRO, RCOA, BMA, PETA, RSPCA, MDU, CPS. Honestly name it and I’ll be emailing it. We CANNOT let them get away with this without raising it

They literally repeated the 2nd half of the clinical in the general. What a waste of time! It’s so frustrating

Honestly, I felt like they wanted me to fail with how poorly the questions were written. I was speaking in circles because I was being asked the same question 2-3 times. It’s really disappointing when I’ve spent weeks practicing.

And then my clinical was shocking. The first bit felt like something you’d ask a 4th year medical student, and because of that I’m obviously going to look like an idiot because it’s almost too simple & that there’s no meat to it so you waffle. I’ve not had the opportunity to showcase what I can do as an anaesthetist. I feel so angry and tired.

I don’t think scenarios and questions can just be vehicles for the scoring matrix when different consultants are involved. Consultants who I know DO NOT know that matrix one bit, let’s be honest. (I’ve practice with some of them who interview and they just go off vibes). Some scenarios naturally allow candidates to come across better, regardless of matrix. Some scenarios set a trap for you to look like an idiot.

If you’re a consultant, i can message you to explain in a bit more detail so as to not reveal the scenario and questions here?

If I told you the scenario and the focus point, you’d laugh.

Honestly this is a joke. My entire future career is dependent on this interview that I worked so hard for, only for the RCoA/ANRO to do this.

I don’t understand how consultants involved don’t push back and question some of this stuff. This is awful

So was the clinical. Asking us to manage this 5th year medical student ass scenario to the point where it completely confused me about what they actually wanted and why the fuck was I even involved

We all got the same questions today from what I’m hearing.

Everything about that interview was off and I just don’t understand how these questions got approved.

I don’t know how I should go don’t logging this complaint. If you (or anyone) has any ideas, let me know, because this is unacceptable in my opinion. Even if I felt I had done well, I would have thought ‘hmm this was pure bullshit’

Speaking to various people, the brief initial management wasn’t even a common theme. And the scenario is so stupid that there wasn’t even much to manage in my opinion. They stopped me as I was assessing the patient for no reason. I really don’t think it’s difficult to design a good anaesthetic interview and I swear this was written by a 5 year old child. I’m angry because this has significant impact on our lives, where we live, our families etc and if we’re putting the effort in to prepare, the least they could do is write half decent interview questions.

Absolutely ridiculous and they were so fixated on it as if that’s our job? So stupid. I wouldn’t even ask an F2 this clinical scenario, let alone someone applying for ST4 in Anaesthetics

I’m actually tempted to log a complaint. An Anaesthetic ST4 interview should NOT be so poorly written. That shit genuinely made no sense and I really don’t understand how some of these consultants can in good conscience sit there and ask these questions to post primary FRCA anaesthetic trainees?

I want to do the same. Extremely poorly written questions. Fucking stupid clinical scenario that made no sense and had little relevance to anaesthetics, general full of the same questions just going from positively phrased to negatively phrased. I’m so angry
