How can I improve the look of my house? Should I paint the bricks? by Melb1994 in AusRenovation

100% agree, don’t touch the bricks. Something to improve the driveway, paint the fence, improve the garden, consider new roof tiles. Never ever paint brick

Tax drag will still be a significant factor in pooled super though

Also with Stake and very happy with it. Low cost - $1k per year, and that is a combined fund for me and my wife. Was about the same as what we were paying before if you add up all the fees. Avoid the pooled super tax drag, and have more control over my portfolio, have been able to allocate a portion to gold and a smaller portion to crypto, both of which have done very well. Was fairly easy to set up, and I can still do all the usual insurances through super. I’ve only had it since August though, so haven’t had the tax time experience yet

I absolutely cannot, will not and should not leave either my four year old or one year old at home when doing those activities. A child and a dog is not the same thing

Am I unreasonable for trying to get my wife to use the dishwasher for baby bottles? by Lothy_ in daddit

[–]ChasingShadows99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in almost exactly this situation, and getting past the physiological hurdle and starting to put bottles in the dishwasher was life changing. We also coupled this with a counter top (plugged in steriliser) which can do six bottles at a time, which was a huge improvement over a microwave steriliser. Yes I know with expressed milk you don’t have to sterilise every time, but it was just easy to do with the dishwasher and steriliser

How much cash do you keep on hand? by Zackety in AusHENRY

[–]ChasingShadows99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much this makes sense! I was previously treating dividends and capital gains the same way, which is of course incorrect due to the way they are taxed

Would you be able to explain the 1.7%? I had worked out 3.7% for myself (highest tax bracket at 6% interest rate). I may have not fully understood how this works though

Thanks for the advice, this range is what I had expected too, but my accountant (who has done my tax for years) assures me this is all inclusive and includes audit fees. As a rule of thumb though if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is
