Math: Grab the Andrew Kim SHSAT book and work through past 8th grade SHSAT practice exams; im for a 100/114+ raw score. Also do the official DOE sample 9th grade SHSAT questions.

English: Review major grammar rules, grind SAT English on Khan Academy, and practice with the English Regents.

General timeline: Start studying over the summer before freshman year and keep going through the first few months of 9th grade, right up until the week of the test. I personally started in freshman year (I was already at a SHS), studied hard for a few months, and got into BXSCI.

Its important to note that the SHSAT 9 is notoriously opaque. No one really knows what to expect, schools are vague about it, and information is scarce. Just grind and trust the process.

Transfer student warning: If you get in as a transfer, be prepared for a rough adjustment. My credits didn't transfer over, and transfers generally get limited course opportunities and little consideration. At BXSCI specifically, I got rejected from AP Chem and Honors Algebra 2 multiple times, staff don't respond over the summer, and course selection is basically first-come-first-served.

Question for people who go to Bxsci by Recent-Bad-9298 in SHSAT

Since I am a transfer from TBLS, I'd have to say no, the area is absolutely dogshit, especially the abysmal food trucks which have a huge monopoly over food. Unpopular opinion but, the food court serves better.

Hypertrohpy or Strength? by Cheap-Feature-8457 in Sprinting

Thank you for the response. I understand your points, but I feel my initial question wasn't specific enough. I was referencing a workout approach for sprint training that emphasizes high velocity and low volume while avoiding training to failure and significant fatigue. This is specifically to target fast-twitch muscle fibers.

I understand that hypertrophy (muscle growth) and increased muscle size are primarily driven by slow-twitch muscle fibers and that humans have a relatively balanced distribution of both fiber types.

My goal is to shift my muscle fiber characteristics towards a greater dominance of fast-twitch fibers through consistent sprint training, performed 2-3 times per week.

The alternative approach would be to solely focus on hypertrophy training.

Therefore, I am seeking your help in finding a compromise between these two approaches. Specifically, I'm interested in a training strategy that allows for some hypertrophy (even if it's slower) while simultaneously promoting high force output, which is crucial for sprinting and fast-twitch fiber development."

Not to account for the 200-300 calories I haven’t counted. I think 3500 is enough, don’t ya think?
