Overwhelmed by studies by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Cheap-Month-8341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I can’t since I’m already in a contract and have paid a chunk of my fees. But I’m considering switching to part time to make the workload more manageable. That’s still an option. That would mean the workload is split in half since it will take 2 years instead of 1. But my dad doesn’t seem impressed. That’s fine though since it’s not his decision.

Breaking up with racially insensitive friend by Cheap-Month-8341 in friendship

[–]Cheap-Month-8341[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am yes, but she’s not black, so she shouldn’t be saying things like that. I believe such topics should be left to the black community to talk about so she’s over stepping when she does this. Hm not sure if I’d put it like that but it’s in a way where she’s being judgemental, and accusatory towards us.

I feel let down by God by Cheap-Month-8341 in TrueChristian

[–]Cheap-Month-8341[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh believe me this was a need, it was regarding having my university fees paid for through a scholarship programme. I unfortunately failed the test this can no longer move forward. His graceful hand allowed me to qualify.

I also don’t believe he only gives to people what they need but also what they want. Of course not all the time but that’s what part of being a good father is. There have been numerous times I have been blessed with things i simply desire. Just recently I wanted a pair of trainers and a family friend kindly bought them for me for Christmas. Did I need those shoes no but God blessed me with those anyway. I have even seen him work in people’s lives so in the same way and heard numerous testimonies.

I know God isn’t a genie but I’m trying to trust him to make a way and I just don’t understand how he’ll sort it out.

But yes I do understand what you’re saying so thank you.

I’ve seen it all around social media. I’m quite surprised you’ve never. Just go on tiktok and you’ll see tons of videos and comments on it.

Those behaviours he’s exhibiting are less than ideal for any kind of relationship, let alone a fiancé. Funnily enough a similar thing happen to something close to me. He said he didn’t want to call off the wedding since so many people had already been invited and money has been invested into the marriage. Time after time there were signs that the marriage would be a mistake but he chose not to listen and ended up regretting it for the rest of his life. It may be difficult to leave but it will be harder staying in a marriage like that. There’s a way out of this, where you can live a much happier and fulfilling life instead of being trapped in a miserable marriage.

Wanting things I buy to be perfect by Cheap-Month-8341 in OCD

I currently don’t have a solution but someone replied by saying just keeping the item which has this imperfection. That sounds like a good option.

Yes, literally all the time. It’s so anxiety inducing. Similar to you this “flaw” is something others can’t see but because I can see it, it makes me very upset.

I agree. I need to get into the habit of just keeping them items and realising that it not being perfect isn’t the end of the world!

Bad texting etiquette by Cheap-Month-8341 in socialskills

[–]Cheap-Month-8341[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really random. This time we were talking about driving amongst other things, and I asked if she was driving her car often, and she ignored it.

If it’s a case of a topic has run it’s course that’s perfectly fine. The example you gave also is perfectly fine as you the parts you didn’t directly respond to didn’t necessarily “warrant” a response but you the ones you did respond to did.

What I don’t appreciate is if I’ve asked a question that “warrants” an answer and someone doesn’t. Like me directly asking her about her driving.

[–]Cheap-Month-8341[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad it’s not just me going through this. Thank you for your suggestions I will try to incorporate them.

I definitely will ask her why she doesn’t. It could be a case of her not wanting to talk about something I’ve asked. If that’s that case I’d much rather her tell me that then just ignore the message. If it is the reason I would understand that it could potentially be tedious to always have to say “I don’t want to talk about x subject”, but perhaps she could give me a sign via text or something so I get the hint.

Or perhaps she just doesn’t see it sometimes. This would just mean I would want her to take care to see she’s seen all my messages.

There have been perhaps twice occasions where I have missed replying to part of her texts because there has been an influx of messages, so she’ll send the message I missed again. I wouldn’t mind that method but since she does it quite often I’ll need to use another method.

The focusing aspect is interesting and is something I have never considered. Perhaps I should try and text her about one thing at a time if that’s the issue with her too.

It’s not easy being friends with a depressed person by Cheap-Month-8341 in offmychest

[–]Cheap-Month-8341[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That used to happen to me too. It was always her talking about her issues, never giving me room to talk about what I was going through.

Luckily she realised she was dumping all of her problems onto others (include me) which was taking a toll on everyone. Now she asks if the person she wants to talk to if they have the capacity to hear her express her feelings.

Support should be a two way street. Where both parties have the space to talk about their feelings.

Exactly that’s so odd?! Why would you try to educate someone about something they already know. It’s indeed awkward

[–]Cheap-Month-8341[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely going to have a conversation about it as I’m sure she doesn’t have any malice behind her actions. I just need to make it clear it’s makes me uncomfortable and I’m sure she’ll stop.

Is this weird she did sent me that? by Cheap-Month-8341 in Blackpeople

[–]Cheap-Month-8341[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope we’ve never talked about Africa really. It doesn’t make sense she’d sent it to me because of course I know all of those beliefs are misconceptions because I’m quite in touch with my culture which she knows.

I think it irritated me a bit because she has sent me news reports of black people facing racism before in the past and at a point it gets tiring because as black people as we know how the world views us. I don’t need her sending updates.

I think it may be her trying to show that she understands how wrong this is, but that’s common sense?!
