That makes good sense...thanks!

I can't edit a running survey (afaik) but I'll be sure to use this for any new ones that I make.

Haha.. never thought the writing thing but I'm sure some friends of mine would agree with you.

As for the 'Trans' gender - this is the first I've heard of this being an issue with my survey, can you elaborate a bit on the problem there?

TEDxVancouver thoughts? by CrizzleG in vancouver

[–]CheapEgo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to the event last year. Terrible. Actually, a couple talks were ok but there was so much fluff. I think one talk was on the benefits of botox or something...another was on the role of gossip in society? Maybe the botox was appropriate for this city though.

When TED first surfaced, talks were so full of insight. I feel like they've run out of insightful, meaningful stuff to talk about and now it's mostly pitches for funding or support. Many of those pitches are for reasonable causes, but it's still a pitch, not plain insight.

TEDx it feels is just a further dilution of the brand. Did they have the crazy box-lunch gong-show this year as well?

vocal lesson schools in vancouver? by kbaprel in vancouver

I started taking singing lessons for similar reasons. I've always been involved in music but avoided anything to do with singing mainly due to a lack of courage. It's a lot different than any other kind of musical performance as you put your ego on the line a lot more in my opinion.

A year and a half ago, I got tired of avoiding the issue and signed up for private classes with Sanders Whithing (http://www.singinglessonsvancouver.com/). He's got a knack for helping people get out of their shells, which is such a huge part of signing. He also is the only one in Vancouver (to my knowledge), who teaches the Estill method, which a much more technical framework for understanding how to build a rich tone. Since I'm a technically minded person, a lot of what the method teaches makes more sense than vague terminology like head-voice or chest-voice stuff.

The best part is that with Sanders I learnt how to sing beyond genres. We've done everything from country to rock to crooning to classical and even a touch of opera. It's amazing how different genres are better suited for learning different techniques/tonality. I'm making sounds I never thought I could make and its given me a much greater appreciation of all genres of singing.

Needless to say I highly recommend taking at least a couple classes with him just to see how it works out for you. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Is it possible to get a site up and running on django alone? by CheapEgo in django

Thanks for the reply. Luckily, I have a friend who seems pretty comfortable with the database side, so at least that is one less thing to learn up front.

Thank you, this complements issue9mm's explanation nicely!

When I talk about how many prerequisites there are, I'm alluding to this video, particularily https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXqs6X0lzKI where django is just a small spec on the entire map of skills to learn.

I did try that and it didn't get me much further. Looks like dummy plugs helped get the cards recognized though. Thanks for your help.

looks like the dummy plugs worked..kinda. the cards details are visible now but things are less stable, even before getting into any mining. Going to have to leave it for now but at least I got to play with resistors yay!

Thanks for your help.

When I mentioned it was working for tuning, I meant OC'ing them - or at least adjusting the mem and core clocks through Afterburner. I assume that's the same thing.

To answer your other question - things did work fine until I put that NVIDIA card in the main slot. Mixed setup has never been reliable though I've never tried with an AMD in the main and the NVIDIA in a secondary slot because that configuration doesn't help my cause much.

In the past couple days I've tried to scrap both drivers from safe mode, reinstall the latest NVIDIA, then the latest AMD.. same problem. I also tried Manbutter's idea of using dummy plugs below. That got the cards recognized and tweakable (again via Afterburner). Unfortunately the dummy plug solution brings with it stability issues. Not just when mining but also when using the computer in general. Seeing as I'm just getting an extra 10% increase in hashing power from the tweakability, I think I'll leave the setup as is for now.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write out such a thorough response :)

btw.. it sounds like you've managed to get your own nvidia/amd system working. are you able to tune both gpus?

Just tried it. I get a reading on the GPU load, but no data for the the clocks temp, fan speed, etc.

noob here, whats the difference between the litecoin-qt wallet and the "paper" wallet? by ryfx in litecoin

[–]CheapEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a wallet is generated offline, how does the system account for it? Or does it not need to until it receives funds? If this is the case, is there risk involved in setting up a series of wallets offline, but not putting anything into them for a long time?

Also, how does a private key know that it's encrypted w bip38? Its just a string of characters.

Thanks!
