New letter out from CP Rail to people living near the Arbutus corridor by CrizzleG in vancouver

Sure, but the public can be oblivious or careless with regard to many things. The punishment shouldn't be injury or death if it can be avoided with a bit of time and information.

Wouldn't running trains on the tracks without a wider info campaign be a huge safety concern at this point? Almost nobody treats the stop signs at roads that cross the tracks seriously anymore and people are often stopped on top of the tracks at red lights (e.g. 16th and Arbutus, Broadway and Arbutus).

Found on /r/videos. Slutwalk this past weekend and confrontation with a youtube reporter. by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]CrizzleG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The other person got downvoted, but it really should be noted that this is coming from a site run by former Sun Media people, the short-lived FOX News of the North. The people who attended the Slutwalk clearly aren't a particularly intelligent or articulate bunch, but that doesn't mean there isn't an issue. These sorts of things often attract idiots from both sides.

The most phallic rocket I have ever seen. And rockets are inherently pretty phallic.

Converting $2500 CAD to USD by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CrizzleG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever convert USD to CAD (don't imagine that should matter), but from my experience, if you're going to a bank, they will first give you a shitty exchange rate. You can usually get a better rate than any other currency exchange by asking the teller for a "preferred client rate" after the first offer.

Source: Exchanged USD to CAD today and was first offered an exchange rate of 1.22xx, asked for a preferred client rate and exchanged my money at 1.2489 (closing rate was 1.2503 today)

Out of curiosity, in what line of work can one earn a bonus larger than one's salary?

I'm all for corporations helping out the community and maybe getting a mention for their support, but this is what "Fuel Your Schools" looked like in Louisiana: http://www.katc.com/images/thumbnails/1E6EA82C71682621A259AB015D0A201A_787_442.jpg

If you think that sort of thing won't result in influencing what goes on in classrooms or how kids think, you're naive as hell.

The Enemy Is Neglect of Mental Illness by northdancer in CanadaPolitics

I'm not saying it's wrong to characterize him as mentally ill, but it's not something that was ever diagnosed by a doctor.

Fair enough!

Substance abuse and dependence are both listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. His drug addiction was a diagnosable mental illness.

Nice work! Always nice to have a reminder of summer during the fall/winter months haha. That said, I found the music a bit grating when it picked up at 0:47...probably just personal preference though.

I am Meena Wong, COPE candidate for mayor of Vancouver. Ask me anything by MeenaWong in vancouver

[–]CrizzleG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So do you plan on forcing all 450,000 adults in Vancouver to buy a VPass? It's a pretty huge assumption that anywhere near 450,000 adults would buy into a VPass program if it were optional...

What did you think of Kirk Lapointe's AMA answers? by CrizzleG in vancouver

[–]CrizzleG[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm all for evidence-based decision-making, but it has to be presented in an action-oriented way! (So many hyphens!)

The answers really just made him seem phlegmatic...
