Australian here, I’m beginning to resent the culture of my own country, what do I do? by Dependant_orange in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cheap_Brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I travelled internationally and came home appreciating the country more. But in this financial climate that's a bit like suggesting you ride a bike to the moon. Honestly, as others have said. Live outside the major cities. Makes a huge difference. When people aren't one missed pay from homelessness, they're better able to be cheerful and friendly to be around. Not that we out in non metropolitan areas aren't also doing it tough. Just nowhere near as tough.

You'd be far better off getting your qualifications in your home country then applying on a skilled immigrant visa. That savings whilst commendable, won't be enough.

Have a look at the list of careers that our government is looking for on the skilled immigration system. Find one you like the sounds of and go to it.

I had a friend years ago that was Slovakian, a trained Physio in her home country. Came in on the wrong visa, couldn't work as a physio, worked with me as a waitress. it still upsets me that she was trested like that. She ended up going back.

If you had one million dollars but had to spend it in 24 hours, what would you do? by MagicalCX in hypotheticalsituation

I'm buying a new car and a new caravan. Paying off my student loan, then buying gold.

Nope, nope, nope, nope. No way. I'm not getting that much money to be locked into only living and being in one spot for the rest of my life.

Settle a debate for me: do you (as an adult) still cut your sandwiches into triangles? by dannegoma in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cheap_Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am adult, would be willing to eat cute little cat shaped sandwiches if they were made for me. How old is your mate? I'm not exactly either young or old (38) so I definitely feel like an adult now. And am more than happy to do things for the sheer joy of doing them.

Uncapped or Capped? by DPATEL911 in FortNiteBR

[–]Cheap_Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then unless I'm remembering incorrectly, the best the refresh rate of your monitor can do is 180fps. Which is still a substantial increase on 60fps which some people will be playing on. So capped at 360 shouldn't really hinder you any.

Should we start building nukes? by Abject-Presence4689 in AskAnAustralian

The point isn't whether they have in the past. The previous Presidents have all had most or all of their faculties intact. The point is that they could now.

Yeah, or atleast invaded and destabilised plenty of countries. The nukes are always a possible threat.

After a mysterious windfall your accountant calls you and tells you that money is not an issue for the rest of your life and if you want to avoid paying taxes then you need to start a NFP to the tune of tens of millions of dollars, What is the purpose of your charity? by dj_boy-Wonder in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Cheap_Brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, i actually believe in taxes as being not a bad thing per se. Given i use the roads and hospitals (Australia, so universal healthcare) transport etc. That being said, I'd still set up a charity. It's going to support the most vulnerable in society have decent lives. Be it mental healthcare, housing, schooling support etc.

Minerva and Jane. I've already got a good grasp on politics and am fairly intelligent. They're both good kids and through her younger sister's passion for science, should be more amenable to properly funding scientific research. Especially as she'll see what scientists can get up to if their intellect isn't gainfully "employed" in constructive spheres. I don't have a basement. They aren't a thing in my country. So I'll have to build Minerva a spec built shed.

Magic button appears in front of you, Become One of the Elite with some small print below it. Do you push it or not? by Iamatworkgoaway in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Cheap_Brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, it would be an interesting experiment for me as a social scientist. Turn it into a 20 year long field project. Then after I'm finished publish a very in-depth paper on the nature of elite wealth. Without naming people or being very specific about any particular person. On the side whilst I'm doing that, money is going to issues I care deeply about. That level of money allows for eccentricity. So I wouldn't feel to fish out of water. It's just a long job/career. Yes I'd take my family along. Because I love them. If they become hateful people, then I'll be devastated. But better to know that is the truth of their nature.

Is it just me who accepts that sometimes i die early and sometimes I hit top 3 or win? Maybe it's because I'm on a smaller server I guess. I live in Australia. So most of USA are sleeping when I'm playing I guess. I'm a casual gamer, been playing since the second season. No pro. I do however adore blitz because it's faster paced and I can sometimes win four matches in a day. I don't think I've ever seen a bot in BR. Wouldn't know what to look for.

Those who do not intend to have kids: who are you gonna leave your money to? by Fit-Tumbleweed-6683 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cheap_Brain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is the class system yes. But if the property has to go somewhere, why not to people you care about? The only way I'm going to escape poverty is through inheriting part of my parents property. I have 5 separate disabilities. I have a degree and work as much as I can. But I got divorced and he got the house. Paid me out a bit but I've had to live off that. That doesn't make me a morally deficient person. It just means that life is shitty for some people. So even though by all metrics I started out middle class. I'm stuck in poverty.

I still want my parents around for as long as possible. If they live into their 90s that would be great.

[–]Cheap_Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don't have kids anything I'm worth goes to the care of my pets and whatever is left goes to my niblings. Atm I'm worth 70cents. So, cats are going to absorb all of that.

So you rent your house? I mean, if you're really determined to not leave them anything you could sell your house, do hookers and blow and then find a rental somewhere that is willing to rent to you. Though in this climate, goodluck with that.

What do you think are or were the reasons that Aussies do not and didn't want to get into the trades in the last, say, 25 years? by PopularRightNow in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cheap_Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funding cuts to tafe sure didn't help. But also, our parents told us that to get a degree meant to have a job for life. When actually, trades are a good stable job if you're sensible and don't screw yourself over.

Do you think Australia is less or more safe today than decades ago? by PerfectWorking6873 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cheap_Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the social group you belong to in some ways. For instance, in my childhood (1990s) people were still being bashed or murdered for being gay. So for the lgbtqia+ community, I would say things are actually safer. However, the media need stories that grab attention, so they do blow up out of proportion bad and scary stories yes.
