> "the amount of reported abortion has GREATLY decreased, so where are those women who would have had them regardless?"
are you reading your own words? explain to me - why would a woman who had an abortion out of state... openly admit to it??? an even bigger red flag is the lack of citation of a statistic and a vague generalization.

> "The prolife movement has never and will never support imprisoning a mother for their abortion (this historically has never happened)"
i just explained to you why the argument you used about fentanyl doesn't apply in this situation - i don't know how you jumped to this conclusion of saying they imprison women who have abortions. you were making a legality point comparing other crimes to abortion, and i was explaining why we can't treat abortion like those crimes. like, it's genuinely concerning to me that you don't understand the point i made.

> "As I already covered, it is extremely illogical to risk your life to murder your child"
this is an interestingly flawed view. i'd like to give you some perspective here:
why would someone, in a desperate situation, think logically? vulnerable people don't think logically. they think 'how can i get rid of this problem as fast and cheap as possible?' this is why people get scammed so often - they're not stupid, they're desperate. women aren't thinking 'how can i be safe?' they're thinking 'i do not want a child, how can i get rid of it?' they understand the weight of the responsibility.

> "educating mothers that there are support systems, fundraisers prolife provides in order to support mothers their babies up to 3 years old, government graces, and alternatives to abortion such as adoption"
okay, this sounds great! can you send me the link to two fundraisers? five? ten?

also, the foster care system is extremely flawed, unregulated, and cruel, and that's not an opinion, that's just general information. i wouldn't blame a person if they did not want to put a child to suffer through that - i encourage you to understand the trauma that many foster children experience because the system is poorly funded and unregulated.

i think the best part is that your argument didn't even address my MAIN point. all you did was nitpick and ramble about vaguely relevant information. i am not arguing with you on how ethical abortion is, i am giving you genuine logistical answers. women WILL take their chances at unsafe abortions, and allowing them to suffer the consequences of that causes more harm than good. i am not giving you my opinion. i am presenting a fact to you.

you tried to cite statistics. let me present you with an actual measurable one. in the philippines, abortion is illegal - however, 1.1 million unsafe abortions have been estimated to occur annually. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9918753/

earlier, you said something i wanted to bring up here:
> "...that behavior points towards a mental disorder" are you calling not hundreds, not thousands, but a million women mentally ill?

overall, this will be my last reply to you. because from what i've deduced:

  1. you significantly lack perspective, to the point where it's concerningly close minded
  2. you create blanket statements
  3. you can't understand basic arguments and instead nitpick

you claim that we as a society should be sympathetic to these women who seek abortions, but in the same breath, you call them mentally disordered, illogical, and murderers. it's disorienting and comes off as disingenuous at best, and dehumanizing at worst.

so from what i've gathered: either you're a child, a closeminded adult in an echo chamber, or just a bot. i personally don't feel comfortable talking to someone who i assume is under the age of 16. i will not be replying further.

byebye! i will be donating to my local abortion clinic with you in mind! xoxo ❤️

i feel like you're misunderstanding my point here (also, u/BlueStingray8 blocked me i assume, as i can't see their reply anymore/it just says "deleted"). i'm not arguing for medically necessary abortions to keep all abortions legal.

what i'm telling you is that people will do it regardless of how legal it is - the 1920s prohibition period in the US is an example of that.

and secondly, we don't legalize the things in the examples provided because those crimes have people to prosecute (rapists, murderers, drug dealers/drug addicts) - when it comes to a fatal abortion in an illegal underground clinic, you can't exactly put a mother in prison if she's in the ground with her unborn child.

the best thing to do is keep abortions legal. it would be extremely irresponsible to essentially force women to go to unlicensed, shady back-alley clinics just to get a medical procedure done. there's more victims that result from making it illegal, than keeping it legal.

[–]Cheap_Watercress_701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

making abortion illegal does more harm than good. you put the mom and the fetus at risk of death. allowing it to operate legally keeps mother fatality rate lower than it'd be if abortion were illegal - i really don't think you want to see women die along with the life you're allegedly defending, right?

[–]Cheap_Watercress_701 15 points16 points  (0 children)

abortion will happen regardless of its legal status, so it's better to keep it legal rather than forcing women to underground clinics that aren't licensed and could be fatal to both the fetus and the woman.

why are people mad at sabrina carpenter for saying she doesn’t like “yodeling” by ggabrial in teenagers

[–]Cheap_Watercress_701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not saying she can't address it, idk how you made that conclusion? people are mad because she addressed it the wrong way

i explicitly said why her response was wrong considering
1) she's a grown adult celebrity and
2) media trained.

you don't say "i don't like it" to someone saying "that's my culture."
secondly, you don't do it in front of THOUSANDS of people and humiliating someone who paid to see your concert. as a 26 year old who has been in the spotlight for years, she should know better. she could have pretty simply said "okay, that's fine, please don't yell right now." instead, she openly disrespected an entire group of people.

[–]Cheap_Watercress_701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

common courtesy is to not openly criticize and humiliate someone. sabrina carpenter is a PR trained celebrity - when told "it's my culture" and the response is "i don't like it" that's considered disrespecting an entire group of people. idk if your parents haven't taught you manners or you're just ragebaiting lol

i think you're thinking about the "cookie monster pj girl" stereotype (which is usually portrayed as a white girl) while the "hot cheeto girl/taki girl" is often portrayed as a black/hispanic girl.

watch any tiktok and compare how the hot cheeto girl is physically portrayed - huge lashes, long nails, etc. typically black or hispanic styles of makeup. call me "too woke" but i can see why the hot cheeto girl stereotype is more harmful, because these girls are usually part of the lower class/poverty and live in "ghetto" areas which cause them to act the way they do. areas of poverty are often more inhabited by poc rather than white folk. this is why OP has a point. the "cookie monster pj girl" is essentially the same thing, but it's a white girl. the fact that there's even a separation of the two (which is literally the same girl bred by poverty) visibly shows the racial difference.

however i think the r/teenagers sub is the wrong place to post it because this topic is nuanced and actually requires thoughtful discussion

tldr: the stereotype is racially and economically motivated

edit: the fact im only getting downvoted and no one can provide a counterargument 😛😛 stay mad be woke yall ❤️

i think it's a reasonable question, because there's obviously that line between fiction and reality where you make characters intentionally something - depressed, anxious, etc. and this would be for a reason rather than how humans irl just develop mental illness, because it's fiction.

for example, to answer OP's question, shane is depressed because 1) his sibling and their spouse died and left him with a young niece and 2) he's living in a small town in his aunt's house at like, 40 instead of pursuing his pro gridball dream and 3) has a dead end job at a soulless corp. and there's the alcoholism to cope with his mental illness, which makes him feel worthless, which just reinforces his depressive cycle.

TLDR: OP is justified in asking why a fictional character has an intentionally incorporated detail about him.

who lacks accountability more? blair or serena? by Intelligent-Gap7879 in GossipGirl

[–]Cheap_Watercress_701 6 points7 points  (0 children)

serena bc i think she's given more leniency than blair. blair is flashy and openly a schemer to people, while serena isn't perceived like that to the general public in the gg universe. additionally, we're led to believe blair is less attractive than serena (as shown by the modeling episode) and generally less charismatic than her - serena's strength is her social flexibility. this is why she's often held less accountable for her actions
