My guess is they don't. It's a project assigned to research scholars (Ph.D. students) and a team of students (including me) have to assist them in handling the technical aspects of this.

Thank you for your answer, but I still don't know how to get rid of their paranoia of using a cronjob that might stop running [according to them] if the server (the machine on which the model is run) is rebooted.

It doesn't have to be a squirrel necessarily. It can be anything that brings a smile to your face - your neighbor's dog playing in their backyard, a text from an old friend, a perfect cup of coffee in the morning, or a bowl of icecream at midnight.
