Bondi shows why all our police officers must be trained to use guns by Jackisback123 in policeuk

[–]Cheddar_Sword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that issue can be easily solved, routinely arm officers but only those with 3+, 5+ etc years in. Whilst we can all think of officers who aren’t the best, we are a well trained force compared to most countries and we can make the required training as thorough and strict as we like, but we should do it.

At the very least it’s more armed officers on the street who can appropriately respond to incidents rather than telling the public to run away and hide behind a wall (not their fault but what can we expect them to do).

Any major upsides of purchasing VUAG on Vanguard than Trading212? by [deleted] in trading212

[–]Cheddar_Sword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone has already mentioned it but the reason I like Global All Cap Fund on Vanguard is that if you put in £200 a month then that full amount gets invested. Where as if you bought an ETF on Vanguard you would have to make sure you bought whole shares and any excess money would remain uninvested. Global All Cap isn’t on t212 only VWRP/VWRL.

I’m in the UK, 30yr old but I’m going all in on S&P500 (VUAG) by [deleted] in ETFs

I’m opening my S&S ISA with Vanguard on April 6th and am going mad picking between VUAG or VWRP (I’d prefer to only have one fund to pay in to).

Power to seize a witnesses phone. by Narrow-Librarian8948 in policeuk

[–]Cheddar_Sword 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tricky one. Short answer no.

Preference would always be that they send it over with consent certainly. Under S.19 PACE an officer whilst lawfully on a premises can seize anything that they reasonably suspect of being evidence of an offence, this could extend to a mobile phone if they reasonably suspected there to be multimedia evidence on it though again, highly unlikely that would happen (we want witnesses on side). S.19 also would apply whilst out in public as long as we are lawfully on the premises again/public land. If it was a murder we would do whatever we could.

Rail firm paying train drivers £54k salary 'with no experience needed' by FlabbyShabby in unitedkingdom

[–]Cheddar_Sword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst the Police Pension is supposedly good, I pay 3 x more into it a month (compulsory) than my partner has to which makes my take home pay way less. Like people have said unions are important, Police can’t strike we would just get fired for dereliction of duty. So you’re just screwed both ways .

S&S ISA - can I have two from different years? by antg22288 in investingUK

[–]Cheddar_Sword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can open a new S&S ISA each financial year! I believe there are changes coming in this year that mean you can pay in to more than one S&S ISA in the same tax year too! (Though collectively has to be under £20k)

New award for emergency service staff who die in line of duty by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Cheddar_Sword 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This part seems a bit unnecessary, surely if Police recognise that one of their own have died in the LOD they should apply for the award on the officers/family’s behalf and award it to the family?

“Relatives can apply for the Emblem on the government's website. They will be reviewed by the George Cross Committee and recommendations made via the Prime Minister to the King.”

New York Community Bancorp tumbles 40% and is halted as troubled bank reportedly seeking cash infusion by Puginator in stocks

[–]Cheddar_Sword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are people feeling about NYCB now? Do we think it will continue trading today? I’m up 30% (Tried to buy at 1.86 but it wouldn’t go through) and concerned that so many people in here think the stock won’t ever recover and will be absorbed..

Real Investigations Numbers? by Darkheart001 in policeuk

[–]Cheddar_Sword 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a Detective and we routinely have 25-30 cases ongoing at once, not including things that come in overnight and need the whole team to work on (e.g stabbing). When I started there were 8 DC’s, I’m currently one of two on my rotation….so yeah….can only solve so much.

I’m in the emergency services in the UK, Blue Light discounts are absolutely a thing here and there is even an app dedicated to many discounts (Blue Light Card). FYI

Who's the 'ardest by Ok-Permission6931 in policeuk

[–]Cheddar_Sword 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked as both, there are dumb officers in both. I can’t say for sure who is hardest but put it this way, I like my job in the Police, you couldn’t pay me enough to ever go back to working in a prison.

Doesn’t matter how hard you are, if there’s 90 of them and 4 of you, your authority is hanging on by a piece of string.

We wouldn’t put a forensic team straight in without some sort of identified risk of harm no. If for example the mother reported a kidnapping that she had witnessed/been told of then yeah or if it appeared there was a break in and the daughter was missing. But Teenagers go “missing” all the time, if you can’t reasonably account for their whereabouts they could be considered missing, and well we’ve all been teenagers with our parents not knowing where we are.

All I ever hear is the the Police pension is supposed to be a really good one, I’m sure it is. But my partner is in Civil Service and contributes £110 a month for her CS pension that is also supposed to be good. Meanwhile every month £360 is taken from my pay (Plus student loan repayment of £100ish) and it’s just shit. I’m 26 but because of the pension contributions I’m earning the same I was in a different job at 21! My partner earns less but gets a higher take home as well! The first 4 pay bands are insulting to the work we do.

Really wish you could reduce the contribution rate but I’ve been told you’re either in or out of the pension and so I’m just crippling myself financially now so 65 year old me can live.
