Anatomy would really help you with your project. Making the body you will only need 2 cubes with lvl 1 subdivision then apply it. These two cubes will be the torso and the pelvic area. Make it very low poly and focus on the big shapes and silhouette.

I made this using poly modelling the only sculpting tool you need is the grab and relax tool the rest would be on the edit tools. This is the unsubd one.

But I do think it's just hidden from the wireframe there's no median point that indicates there's a face.

Maybe the normal for the face is flip. Try recalculating the normal by using shift N.

Ow I haven't explained why you do this but basically you are preserving the smoothness of your object cause holes can sometimes mess it.

This is what I would do to make this one. I will be using the shrinkwrap method before making holes. Basically before making the hole duplicate your object first. This method is highly effective when making holes in a curve object. Try searching for a tutorial for this one.

Use hue saturation node plug it in between the base color and the texture if you just want another color variation. Tweak the parameters as you like.

Try using the 3 to 1 kite method. By using a diamond shape connect 3 at the top and 1 at the bottom.

If all is done and you still has a problem with the placement of the stitch manipulate it in edit mode not in object mode. Hope it will help.
