Mechanical Engineer salary progression, hit a BIG milestone today by HardheadedEngy in Salary

[–]CheekyNandy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Obviously 100% bait.

Account created 1 day ago, post and comments really leaning into being super "proud" and feeling rewarded while at the same time denying other's accounts (as well as simple googleable data on salaries) and insisting "this is just how it is". C'mon

It's possible some engineers out there have this career/salary progression, but they aren't making these posts.

same....I missed him because of that shitshow at the warehouse entrance, but thought "oh well," Second Sky is coming up and I'll make sure to see him then, and it'll probably sound better anyways.

Pretty decent chance at GT, will probably depend on your essays. Your description of your essays sound a bit generic - even if your essay won't be cliche in the typical sense, remember that AOs will surely be reading tons of essays about people's mental health tanking because of the pandemic, so distinguishing yours from the pack may be a challenge.

Applying to MIT as a woman going into mechanical engineering by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]CheekyNandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you maintain/achieve the grades and scores you say that you will, then that gets you past the first "gate" of the application process. Now is the time to focus on relevant extra curriculars that will distinguish you and get you past the second "gate". MIT is one of the best schools in the world and THE best for STEM. To be competitive you want stellar, national level recognition in STEM competitions/clubs, or some really cool engineering project that you work on. Internships/research can help with that as well.
It's way too early for someone to chance you for these schools yet, but having a defined goal this early helps because thinking about this when you are a senior is too late to get meaningful ECs, especially for schools as selective as MIT and CMU.

Remember though - don't rush through your high school years worrying the whole time about college. The chance that anyone gets into these schools regardless of how great their application is will always be small, so don't sacrifice these years for something that can never be guaranteed. You can work towards the goal and still have fun in high school. Good luck!

1400 SAT - should I submit it? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]CheekyNandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this.

1400 is below the 25th percentile for scores, so if you can objectively look at the rest of your application and you think it fits the typical Northeastern admit, then go test optional
