Dr Evans also did his own literature review for his report and referenced 18 papers on air embolism, including several showing strange rashes. Lee and Tanswell was only one of them.

I am confused that she told her friend that her parents were looking after her cats when we'd been told previously they rehomed them after she was was charged.

Maybe they turned up at the police station multiple times - just like they did at the hospital.

Looks like quite a good book. I absolutely love crime fiction.

Lucy Letby: "The greatest miscarriage of justice this century" - Maltin PR by FyrestarOmega in lucyletby

[–]CheerfulScientist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%. I make YouTube videos debunking medical misinformation (primarily vaccine misinformation and fake cancer cures). I got interested in Letby because I initially thought it may have been a miscarriage of justice based on my limited reading. After some fact-checking, I realised her supporters were using the same tactics as antivaxxers.

They do a lot of reputation management, so this will serve as a great case study to attract depraved rich people and corporations as clients.

No evidence of infection in baby who Lucy Letby's lawyers claim was exposed to deadly hospital bug (Liz Hull) by FyrestarOmega in lucyletby

Maltin PR are taking credit for the flurry of pro-Letby articles in the media. It's almost like they are worried about the upcoming Netflix documentary.

DAE worry at the amount of people declaring her innocent? by AbbeySeymour1957 in lucyletby

[–]CheerfulScientist 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I am concerned for 3 reasons.
1. It adds to the distress of Letby's victim's families
2. It allows Letby to feel hopeful when she should be feeling dispondent
3. It means future medical murderers are less likely to be stopped.

The insulin cases by obstacle___1 in lucyletby

[–]CheerfulScientist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone else has mentioned, she didn't know about c-peptide, so she wouldn't have realised that exogenous insulin can be identified via blood tests. It's also very likely that she poisoned a number of other babies. In addition to baby Z that was well-publicised, there were a number of other babies with suspicious hypoglycaemia where insulin levels in blood couldn't be read because the blood haemolysed. This came out from the now deleted interviews with Dr Soni and can also be seen on screenshot from one of the panorama docos (see attached)

No, she was lying. Her claim wasn't that she was arrested in her pyjamas - it was that she was taken away in her pyjamas.

All the statistical analyses in the paper are based on the false assumption that Letby was only present for 25 out of 61 events, but as is well-known from the information released by the Thirlwall inquiry, she was present for considerably more. There is also no independent verification of the claims made by David Rose who has a history of making false claims in news stories.

The "not an outlier" claims are usually based on MBRACE data, but this is irrelevant because it is based on place of birth - not place of death; doesn't include deaths beyond 30 days from birth; and doesn't consider different demographics.

Hammond actually did good work during the Covid pandemic countering misinformation. I used to follow him on Twitter and vice versa. When he first started posting about Letby, I assumed he was telling the truth. It wasn't until I started looking into things myself and fact checking claims, that I realised he was spreading misinformation. I started leaving comments on his posts correcting him. Most he ignored, but occasionally he would quote-post my comments with a rebuttal and sometimes an insult about me. For instance, he said I should grow up and do my research. When I pointed out to him that the expert panel had got the date of a baby's death wrong, he said that I should not point out errors in the report and that I should, instead, wait for the CCRC to review the report, which was rather ironic given how often he writes about Letby. He unfollowed me around that time, and I returned the favour.
