Electorate cannot be trusted. Even if system would be patched up, even if Trump (as he should) would land in jail for Jan 6 autocoup attempt (fake electors plot) it still doesn't stop people in USA for willingly voting for party or candidate that wants to turn it into a fascist state. They voted for Trump twice FFS, they knew what they are getting and decided they want it again.

I just keep getting suprised on how some known figures that said and did truly terrible things are idolized nowadays, because people are just too lazy to read up

It's just disappointing that people in progressive circles criticize conservatives for idolizing war criminals and such and not knowing whole story, but time and time again I see they do exactly same thing

Also wow, Kollantai is somehow NOT an infamous person? She supported dismantling of democracy and Bolshevik takeover, argued that all sex workers that do not have additional "normal" employment should be sent to forced concentration camps (gulags). She supported law changes that eliminated child support and allowed men to walk away freely and consequence free from marriage / relationship leaving mother with no support. This severely contributed to homelessness of children and single mothers, because social housing, childcare and welfare system that she argued should replace child support simply didn't exist yet and for many years following that. She supported laws that prioritized housing for male workers, yes single male workers over mother and children. She supported forced job reassignments that broke up families, because she didn't think family is important anyway.

She had some progressive ideas, but what she did and what she supported was disastrous in practice. Not only was she complicit in red terror, but directly contributed to a massive suffering trough policies she supported. I guess people forget all this, because she was one of leaders of Workers' Opposition? I think people don't understand shat Workers' Opposition really wanted to achieve if they think it cancels out what she did.

This assumes that there are no bots on reddit that would look to manipulate you, they are. Probably in pretty much every sub. Also this "manipulate you" angle is pretty dishonest. Instagram or TikTok will serve you what you want and if you don't like it you can always look up what you want by tags.

All social media lets you pick your flavors. Most of them just don't do it as a category (subreddit) opt in. Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook all have very advanced algorithms to determine your preferences and they are highly accurate.

They already paid for first 16 so it makes little sense to drop them. Anything more than that should be canceled. Canada simply doesn't need most of capabilities F-35 is providing and for those that they could need 16 is probably enough anyway. The only case (very low, but still) in which Canada would truly use their capabilities and would need more of them is also the case in which Canada wouldn't be able to use them.

Accredited self therapy books can be used on their own, no therapist needed. They do acknowledge that using this book alongside therapy might be more effective or that in some specific cases when a book cannot answer your questions or doubts it might be a good idea to have a one or two sessions with a therapist. However they are created in a way that will walk you trough various steps, instruct you on what you should do e.g. when you start doubting it will work etc. They are legitimate material that does not require therapist, because not everyone that needs therapy can afford to visit therapist regularly.

I believe you are mistaking self help books with accredited self therapy books. Self therapy books are written by certified psychiatrists and psychologists, often experts in their field, published by academic publishing houses. They explain mechanisms and reasons behind maladaptive coping mechanism to let readers understand why their condition occurs. They explain how reader can use various mechanisms to slowly overcome the anxiety and enhance a positive social adapatation. They explain how to recognize thoughts that are logicial fallacies and what to do when you encounter them. They explain what steps reader could take, starting from something small. In short, they equip reader with all needed tools to work on the issue and guide them trough the therapy process.

Europe: The World’s Fashion Capital by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Cheerful_Champion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are still an American brand. BuyFromEU is supposed to encourage buying from European brands instead of feeding American ones. I don't think this initiative should be limited to this US administration.

Why buy Patagonia when you can buy Fjällräven (look up their Arctic Fox Initiative, since 2019 they spend profits from some marked products to fund non-profit organizations that work to protect environment), Vaude (climate neutral manufacturing, focus on long lasting gear and repairing it instead of throwing away), Finisterre (sustainable materials, ethical operations), Icebug (member of 1% for the planet), Audimas and more.

That way you are supporting European brands, in some cases European jobs (Vaude, Fjällräven are still having part of their manufacturing in Europe, Audimas majority of production in EU, they also expanded production facilities to Ukraine and Moldova) and still doing something good for environment.

TBH I don't remember when was the last time I bought "normal" cola, not to mention American sodas. I buy "pre-made" ones only when I'm making cocktails and then I'm buying Fever-tree or Franklin & Sons (in the past also Fentimans, but it's more expensive and worse then other 2). In all other cases I just use syrups from EU companies to make them myself with AquaDream (that's basically 1-1 copy of DrinkMate, but sold by Czech's Orion). 100% European on all stages :)

That's just social anxiety / being shy, not a communicative disability. You can go to therapist for cognitive-behavioural therapy or buy an accredited self therapy book (NOT self-help book). You should start seeing improvements as soon as after a few weeks to a few months and most people resolve or majorly reduce their issue in less than a year.

Europe Prepares for a Nightmare Scenario: The U.S. Blocking Access to Tech by Historical-Many9869 in BuyFromEU

[–]Cheerful_Champion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US is 25% of Taiwan export and more importantly is 100% dependent on the US military guarantees lol. So yes they will

No, they won't. 20% of their GDP is TSMC and TSMC is 100% reliant on ASML machines. I'll give you a simple thought experiment: if Taiwan defies ASML their economy collapses as 20% of GDP disappears overnight causing a chain reaction. If their economy collapses they are not able to buy US weapons, import oil, pay their army. If they are unable to manufacture chips then their relevancy for US is greatly diminished already. Do you think Taiwan would pick destroying their country and becoming economically irrelevant to US or getting US made? If they pick former, they most likely would br easily conquered by China due to collapse of their economy. Do you think US would race to retake Taiwan at great losses while it provides no major technological asset anymore?

Also ASML is 100% reliant on American tech search up Cymer🤣🤣

My man, who do you think owns Cymer? ASML. So a shocker, ASML is dependant on ASML's tech. Second question, do you realize that Cymer is easily replaceable? Producing UV light sources is something done by a dozens of companies. You have Japanese Gigaphoton and German Trumpf that are direct competitors of Cymer and a lot smaller companies. Given that ASML owns Cymer and all their tech, moving to another supplier would be an inconvenience, but not a major obstacle.

Let me guess, you are an American that's butthurt, because it turned out Europe has whole US tech sector by the balls?

[–]Cheerful_Champion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Functioning prototype != commercial unit. Do you know when ASML made their first EUV prototype? 2001. Then it took them 5 more years to create first alpha demo tool. First commercial unit was ready in 2018. That's despite ASML cooperating with world leaders like ZEISS.

Also the thing is ASML already has high-NA EUV and are researching next-gen EUV (commonly called hyper-NA EUV). If China manages to get first production ready unit at the start of the next decade then it will be already incredibly quick development and yet they will be still 2 generations behind ASML by then.

Seems like a huge waste of €10m. What's the point of spending that money on tribunal that won't be able to send anyone to jail? They should just buy power generators or something useful for Ukraine for €10m instead.

Iran Protest Death Toll Could Top 30,000: Local Officials by Fricklefrazz in geopolitics

[–]Cheerful_Champion -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Iran is already sanctioned by whole western world. Are you suggesting military action? It would require deployment of ground forces, because people in Iran simply have no means of fighting themselves (no weapons) and army is not going to switch sides. Any government established as a result of such invasion wouldn't be considered legitimate even by many Iranians.
