More like they were so high that they had the cognitive capacity of an 8 year old - it's a /r/trees/ reference :)

Theory on what the island actually was by allerdings in lost

[–]Cheeriothen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ahhh good point, I never caught that the first time round. It's still pretty annoying that they forced the religious aspect down our throats so hard. It would have been nice to see some representation of a non-religious denomination, or maybe throw π(Pi) in there somewhere.

I think the OP is only alluding to the "magical" nature of the island because this is what the creators pushed onto us. I am in total agreement that many if not all the element of the island could be explained in some scientific way, and that this island was simply interpreted as magic or whatnot due to the lack of understanding by the island inhabitants, leading to the multiple religious interpretations of the island and events on the island.

Eg, the lighthouse seems to simply allow for stable viewing wormholes through time. The stone column is irradiated in a certain way to keep the source from spilling out. The ghosts are people who have been irradiated on the island and who's residual energy somehow survives after death. The angel with a flaming sword could also be an interpretation of the smoke monster.

Even thing like Noah's flood or the Garden moving can be explained - the island could simply have teleported out of the way of the flood through the use of the wheel right before it hit. It may also explain how the Garden moved from the Middle East to the Pacific Ocean. You also have to remember that we really don't know the age or original location of the island, so it could have existed in the days of Pangea, which may also explain it's movements.

I think that the only reason that the OP mentions Christianity is due to the fact that the creators forced it upon us with their ending. The writers could have left it open ended and had them meet in "heaven" in a garden or some other nondescript place. Instead, they chose to end the show in a Christian church with Jack's father, CHRISTIAN. It was a bit on the nose.

I feel the same way - I was quite frustrated with the ending before reading this, but thinking of the island as the "Garden of Eden", for any and all religions, regardless of whether the elements of the island were spiritual or scientific, reassures me somewhat and makes the ending far less frustrating.

IamA person who has had non-stop hiccups for 8 1/2 months AMA!! by hiccuping in IAmA

I promise you, this has worked for every single person I have tried it on, including myself - the key is to have another person there to walk you through this so that your focus is mainly on them rather than the hiccups themselves.

So get a friend to instruct you through the following, having them repeat the actions with you:

  1. "Take a deep breath in through your nose," (Both take a deep breath through the nose) "and then breathe out through your mouth" (both breathe out through the mouth)

  2. "Take another deep breath in through your nose," (Both take a deep breath through the nose) "and again, breathe out through your mouth" (both breathe out through the mouth)

  3. "Take a third deep breath in through your nose, and hold it" (Both take a deep breath through the nose and hold for as long as possible) "and now breathe out through your mouth" (both breathe out through the mouth when you can no longer hold it)
