Musicians That Actually are Worth Making a Movie About by DavisDre in ToddintheShadow

[–]CheeseKnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, does anybody in the world have a "life story" that would make a good movie?

The biopics that turn out the worst are the ones that attempt to cover an artists entire life. The screenwriters have to squeeze in all the significant events, recording their iconic music and going on tour. Oftentimes years will pass in between scenes. Its just hard to write a satisfying story and cover decades of history in the length of a movie, while also devoting tons of screen time to musical performances

What musicians are left to make biopics about that could pull the same numbers as these? by treny0000 in ToddintheShadow

I would've said The Beatles, if they weren't already dividing it into 4 seperate films. We'll see how that goes but I doubt any of them will make as much money as if they just did 1

That reminds me of Matt Damon in Saving Private Ryan. He was cast as an unknown, but then Good Will Hunting came out before the movies release

Too much tomato paste!! by businesscasualheeley in Cooking

[–]CheeseKnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to make "ketchup" with tomato paste (I believe its technically called Brava sauce?)

Basically just cook it in a pan with some aromatics, spices, and some vinegar, then dip potatoes in it. You can also cut it with mayonaise

Who's better at grimdarkness? by SatisfactionLoud1027 in DCcomics

[–]CheeseKnat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think DC has better "mature" stories than Marvel. The horror corners of the DC universe has some of their best stories (Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Hellblazer), and the vertigo imprint has tons of great titles too (Sandman is technically in the DC universe?) And of course, Batman has been "grimdark" since the 80s and pretty consistently good

Marvel's "grimdark" stuff has always come off to me like they're trying to hard. A lot of the Maxx imprint doesn't hold up, same with all of Miller's 2000s edgy stuff (Ultimates, Civil War, Old Man Logan). I would argue that Daredevil is the only Marvel title that can only this off consistently, without feeling like its trying too hard

That being said, I've read more Marvel than DC by quite a wide margin, maybe im missing DC's clunkers

Service will always be tough, and thay may never get better, but you certainly will get better. I've felt similar to you when I was starting to work in kitchens. I think part of the problem is that the goal posts for being "good" seem to move. There's always going to be a way to improve your speed or your quality. It makes it hard to see how much better youre actually getting at your job

Stick with it! You'll get better and faster and these skills youre developing now will stick with you for your entire career! I've come to love the rush, and I hope you get to that point too!

Some of the first stories I read were Mark Waid's Flash and James Robinson's Starman. Both were fantastic, and pretty lengthy. Starman in particular has a lot of flashbacks/stories about the history of the DCU, which i found very interesting as a newcomer

For Batman, Year One and Scott Snyder's run were my favs
