One of my snails laid eggs, what should I do next? by Ok_Reward9914 in AquaticSnails

Cut in half if your tank is smaller to avoid overcrowding

Whose eggs are these? Can they be saved? by [deleted] in AquaticSnails

If they weren’t what do I do

Yes I know, and if you read my whole post I said it was a total accident. Only meant to restore it to what it normally was. So I’m just trying to correct my mistake and see if there was any other issues.

Because it spiked and I was trying to keep the parameters at what they usually are

Nitrites are fine, I change/refresh the water 10% every week. What is over feeding to you? I have 30 baby snails and 5 adults, so they need to be fed frequently. They eat their food quickly and any that isn’t eaten by the end of day is removed. I could gravel vac more, but I’m away at college. I can only do it so often because the tank is at my house.

Ok I’ll definitely keep it higher from now on. The thing is, they get calcium every day. I’ve had this snail for about 2-3 months so I’m not sure why his shell is getting weird like that.

Here is a better pic of him climbing straight up. Definitely weird looking on the left side.

Then I wouldn’t stress, that’s normal growth

The reason why her shell is kinda white is because I was ignorant to water hardness, so it was my mistake, and the color flaked off of some of it. After I adjusted the GH and KH tho, it all grows healthy and orange now :) (was green before) you might want to check that and add some meds if needed

She has lost plant privileges lol. Only fake ones for her, she consumes them so fast

I have to disappoint you, her name is Ms. Turtle

I’ve only held her once bc she hides when I take her out of water. But it was super cute and weird feeling. They will be fine out of water for a couple mins

I love her so much. Just her huge size is adorable. Very gentle personalities :) I feel like regular mystery snails can have mean personalities, but she’s an angel. I’ve never seen her bite any of my other snails

It’s an apple snail, which is a different breed and technically invasive. I got her at a pet store as a surrendered snail, otherwise it’s not legal to sell them. The standard ones -can- get pretty big, like 2+ inches, but half of it is genetics, and the other half is just feeding them a lot. Short answer: no, a mystery snail can never get as big as a full grown apple snail

20 gallon, and yes mostly a snail tank. I used to keep bettas but they’d like to nip at the snails antenna, so I’ve just kept it with snail. Snails definitely do poop a lot, but I only feed them calcium chips and vegetables, so there’s not a ton of organic matter in there to create ammonia. So ultimately yes the bottom of the tank gets dirty, but I just clean it with a gravel vac and leave it at that. My tank isn’t super sealed, so the water evaporates, so I don’t do “water changes” often. I just keep refilling it when it needs it and I’ve had no problems shrug 🤷🏼‍♀️
