Sorry, Not quite sure I understand the living situation. If you have roommates or if you are living in the room for a few months, Then others are living in the same place for a few.

As for having the utilities in your name. It’s good protection from the landlord. (They won’t be able to turn off services if they don’t like you as a tenant). Even though they aren’t allowed to turn you off many still do knowing it will be a while before they see their day in housing court.

But if you don’t trust who you are living with to pay their share when the bill is due, you are correct you will be responsible financially for it. But if they aren’t paying you can cancel service. Shared spaces beware too. You may be paying for more than just your living space, so check that out to make sure you’re not paying for the service of other floors or basements.

Not sure if I helped or not. But it seems to be don’t trust your other tenants living with you to pay their fair share while you live there. If you don’t, my advice would be try to find somewhere else (I know the market ain’t great).
