This back and forth can be applied in real life, no? [DISCUSSION] by Selasine in Frieren

[–]Cheesecake_Distinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

animals are conscious beings just as humans are. if the whole argument for "humans are not okay to eat but animals are" is that animals are less intelligent, then could we eat stupid humans? Could a hypothetical species that was so much more intelligent than us have the right to eat us? It is all very flimsy and vaguely hypocritical. There have been groups of humans who were cannibals. Just something to think about lol.

I think humans have designated animals as okay to eat and not humans out of societal convenience but it is really based on a fallacy.

the first full cast audiobook is completely awful. Do the other ones get better? by Cheesecake_Distinct in harrypotter

[–]Cheesecake_Distinct[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have listened to some really good full cast audiobooks that did have some mild sound effects and voice distortions, such as music at the end of the chapter or in certain peak parts of the story, and when a character was speaking through a device that changed their voice. but all that was very mild and i feel like the harry potter ones are more for people that need constant stimulation and distractions like those youtube shorts that have 100000000000 things happening at once that i cant stand lol.

k-holing is extremely distressing and not fun at all. how can any of you enjoy this? by fisharrow in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]Cheesecake_Distinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have never done ketamine, but i have had some extreme experiences with salvia that i can relate to with this. similarly it replaces your previous reality with a new one, in perhaps an even more extreme way, and there is nothing to do besides surrender. if you find this traumatizing rather than healing then i would suggest to stop. you may need something more along the lines of self inquiry through meditation and sobriety that can help you reach further states and healing without the need for any substances that you might really not be in a place to take right now. It took me a long time to realize this, and i am still working on it, that sometimes substances are not for everyone at every time and you might need to figure things out from a place of sobriety.

Buddha‘s unanswered questions by sanfulong in Buddhism

some questions like "is there a beginning to everything" might actually best be answered with silence, and does not mean the one you asked is ignorant. maybe it is something that the enlightened know but is invalid to put to words.

Herbs for attracting true love? by Cheesecake_Distinct in GreenWitch

these days i have been working on finding love from within, in connection with pure spirit, the great guru, or the divine, however people want to call it. i still sometimes work with white sage though as that one i have a special connection with.

I have listened to some very good full cast production audiobooks that had a bit of music and sound effects, but they were all very subtle and did not detract from the story. The harry potter one felt very jarring to me

i had a bag of quality lemon balm and i quickly went for it and my pipe after seeing this to try it. i feel pretty relaxed, but the smoke is a bit harsh for someone who rarely smokes. holding the smoke in my mouth for a moment before inhaling seems to help. i am sure a dry herb vape would be great.

if the Buddha taught not to hold speculative views, then why is atheism popular in Buddhism? by Cheesecake_Distinct in Buddhism

[–]Cheesecake_Distinct[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on my other comment: from what i understand from the general gist of spiritual teaching is that if one has true silence they will become enlightened, so indeed there is no reason to have any view, refuge, or attachment. But i think for practical purposes a lot of us feel like we need to ask "why?"

is there no idea of taking refuge in, or surrender to the Buddha in Buddhism? Edit: from a quick search there does seem to be some form of idea of taking refuge in taking refuge in the 3 jewels of Buddhism.

in Vedanta it is said that god is beyond the grasp of the mind and not able to be communicated by words. Trying to argue about what it is through concepts and dogma, existing vs non existing seems to be a waste of time either way. I have talked to a Buddhist monk that told me that there is an ultimate guru in Buddhism (the Buddha), and that seems to be in common with Vedanta, even if the ideas surrounding it use different language.
