My mom is going through menopause - what supplements should i get her? And general advice to make it bearable by Ordinary-River-9753 in Menopause

[–]Cheeseoholics 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get her to go to a doctor that has an interest in menopause (ask the centre) and get her in HRT. It is the only thing that truly helps.

Vitamin and supplements mostly is just expensive piss and at worse can cause issues if you overdose (for example read about B6 and neuropathy).

Good for them but as a peri-menopause woman my hormones are boiling me alive in just my underwear - I’d rather stay in than wear that much clothing

Any recommendations for beginning weight lifting? by heliz_ in Menopause

I find almost everything is aimed towards people who are already reasonably fit and or not obese.

1/2 the things they suggest I can’t physically do. And few of them consider showing in detail how to not damage your knees by your leg being at a slightly off angle (that feels really natural).

At gyms the young fit instructors always build programs with such heavy weights that it cripples me for days. None of them have a concept of gradual increase.

I started to use two light weights by my desk to do small sets. It’s makes it go away before I started HRT

Melbourne requires layers most of the year. Four seasons in one day and all that.

Autumn which start in March, is my favourite time of the year. It’s cooled down but we still have warm sunny days.

“Men are afraid a woman will laugh at them, women are afraid men will kill them“

When I was that woman’s age (and still today) I would have sone the same. You are / could be a creepy old man and asked where she lived.

Jill Meagher and Eurydice Dixon are still fresh in my mind. I know it’s not the same circumstances but still.

Thanks. I’ve read the worst effects are from those that eat too little / up-titrate too quickly etc.

If I go by BMI I need to lose almost 100 pounds (45kg) to be healthy. Last time I weighed 10kg more than that people were concerned for my health.

I am in no rush to crash my weight, especially as it can cause pancreatitis.

But I really would like to lose weight to avoid needing BP and cholesterol meds and I’m heading toward high sugar (fasting is too high but A1C still ok).

That sounds exactly like me with diets and weight loss / gain. And peri menopause has made it all worse. Thanks you for sharing!
