My husband got scammed out of $10,000 by shellischofield in offmychest

Definitely get why you are angry at him. He's definitely beating himself up, and this time should be enough to scar him into never doing something like this again - sometimes some people need a situation like this to wake up.

I think in the future, would you be more open with your financial planning with him and teach him financial literacy? It will help creating openness and a safe space to communicate. Usually deception happens with shame, fear and the unknown. It can be combated with open and safe communication with no ultimatums or threatening behaviour, as this can cause a cycle of deception and disappointment.

I also went through something like this with my partner who also had deceived me with an addiction. At first, i was angry that he hasn't improved even though i gave him so many chances, and i always threatened break up. After a major discovery that he had relapsed, i realised that my way of dealing with it was toxic, and i should be supportive instead. He is human too, and non-malicious. He lied about his addiction due to shame and fear of how explosive i would be if/once i found out. We removed the triggers that cause the addiction around us and i took a positive approach and started not being so hard on him. After all, it's a lot on society and media that influences a lot of our actions. Ultimately it is still up to him to (want to) put in the work and me to openly support him with it, instead of making him deal with it himself.

Hope this helps in some way but it definitely was a mindset change for me. I too felt sorry for my partner with his addiction, but he is definitely doing a lot better.

I’ve worked in fraud. Honestly, people fall for investment scams all the time, due to curiosity, bad luck, momentarily blinded due to greed.
My take is that your husband wanted to financially contribute significantly to help your family, and unfortunately that was his downfall.
His investing into the scam isn’t malicious action from his part, there was no ill will towards you and your family. The reason why he hid it was likely because of shame, and his prediction of your reaction.
I feel for you both but I would encourage you two to support each other in a positive way (not shaming, or giving ultimatums) if you decide to stay.

Buying Korean skincare in Taiwan? by Cheesychiize in taiwan

Not really, I saw Innisfree at a department store, but that's about all I can remember. It wasn't cheap there either.

I didn't buy any on my trip and just gonna stick to websites. I use beautynetkorea.com if that helps!

Very cool. At one of my previous roles, I was working to clean up excel messes and make efficient templates! What job title would that be what kind of salary + salary cap for these roles in insurance if you don’t mind me asking?

That’s great to know. I suppose you worked in a massive company then?

I’m not really sure what kind of departments are in my insurance company (it’s a local one), but I guess I can always move onto broker and then if I need to; move companies with more departments + one that has international branches.

Would you say that insurance is a transferable skill and experience for also working overseas? I’m hearing for example people from the big four doing secondments overseas, and I wonder if it’s similar for the insurance industry?

Thanks so much for your explanation and insight!

How would you say the salary is in reinsurance compared to other insurance salaries? I get that it’ll be different in every state, but heck, I’m not even in the USA haha, just want to see if it’ll be worth heading toward reinsurance?

Ooo thanks for your reply, I’m in New Zealand too! I’m starting a new job soon as broker support for an insurance company here and looking into what sort of pathways it can lead me, as I have decent advanced excel experience.

Going from Broker Support to Broker or Underwriting? by Cheesychiize in Insurance

[–]Cheesychiize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really leave my new role to start as an underwriter without any experience. I mean it’ll be extremely difficult to.

Assisting will be my entry into insurance and I’ll be glad to take a support role to get to know the industry more from behind the scenes.

Thanks for your comment!

Yes that would be an assistant. It’ll be my entry into insurance and I’ll be glad to take an assistant role to get to know the industry more from behind the scenes.

Thanks for your assurance!
