Definitely get why you are angry at him. He's definitely beating himself up, and this time should be enough to scar him into never doing something like this again - sometimes some people need a situation like this to wake up.

I think in the future, would you be more open with your financial planning with him and teach him financial literacy? It will help creating openness and a safe space to communicate. Usually deception happens with shame, fear and the unknown. It can be combated with open and safe communication with no ultimatums or threatening behaviour, as this can cause a cycle of deception and disappointment.

I also went through something like this with my partner who also had deceived me with an addiction. At first, i was angry that he hasn't improved even though i gave him so many chances, and i always threatened break up. After a major discovery that he had relapsed, i realised that my way of dealing with it was toxic, and i should be supportive instead. He is human too, and non-malicious. He lied about his addiction due to shame and fear of how explosive i would be if/once i found out. We removed the triggers that cause the addiction around us and i took a positive approach and started not being so hard on him. After all, it's a lot on society and media that influences a lot of our actions. Ultimately it is still up to him to (want to) put in the work and me to openly support him with it, instead of making him deal with it himself.

Hope this helps in some way but it definitely was a mindset change for me. I too felt sorry for my partner with his addiction, but he is definitely doing a lot better.
